If there's one thing that frustrates me more than anything else in covering the lunatic asylum known as Twitter for Twitchy, it is a liberal who almost gets it, but for a variety of reasons, I know they never will.
Hardcore lefties never frustrate me. They may infuriate or disgust me, and usually make me laugh at how insane they are, but they don't frustrate me. They're so predictable, I usually know how they will react to any issue before even they do.
No, it is the ones who get a glimpse of the light, but choose to remain in darkness that confound me.
Bill Maher is a perfect example of this. Every week on his show, and often on his podcast, Maher expresses his bewilderment—often hilariously—at how batpoop crazy his beloved Democrat Party has become. This is most evident in a lot of the woke issues that the Left embraces, such as DEI and the 'transing' of children. Maher has even (ever so slightly) backed off of some of the climate hysteria he is well-known for embracing in the past.
In his case, the explanation is simple. Maher has a terminal case of TDS. Unlike many other leftists who suffer from the same ailment, I don't believe he hates America. But his gigantic blind spot of irrationally hating President Trump prevents him from ever truly realizing that the Democrat Party is no longer the Democrat Party. It is the Communist Party of America (or DSA, as they currently call themselves).
Another example is Martina Navratilova. The tennis Hall of Famer has seen firsthand how destructive men in women's sports have been. She has spoken out against it repeatedly, and vehemently, but continues to vote for the people who still adamantly support such madness and will bring it back without a moment's pause if they ever regain true power.
Navratilova is fundamentally broken, living her life in a distorted iteration of Einstein's definition of insanity. She doesn't just hate Trump; she hates anyone who supports or is even remotely associated with the President. She even says so in her bio:
Navratilova is so broken, in fact, that she is now embracing one of the most ridiculous narratives that the Left has recently come up with (and that's saying something):
Elon Musk is not a smart man.
A few days ago, Musk sat down for an interview with The Economist's Zanny Minton Beddoes, which turned contentious pretty quickly. Beddoes wanted Musk to respond to the ridiculous assertion that people don't like him. Of course, some people don't like him. But what kind of interview question is that? Would she ask that of Keir Starmer?
Musk, of course, gave her the only response she deserved: a LOT more people hate the media than hate him.

Leftists can cry 'toddler' all they want. Musk is right. And Beddoes is completely flummoxed. His 'I don't care' response is how every leftist accusation should be treated.
She tried many more bad faith attacks against Musk during the full interview, such as calling him a racist, anti-Muslim, and far-right, always couching her questions in the cowardly phrasing of 'some people are saying ...'
Musk demolished her on every point.
Why? Because he is a very smart person, perhaps one of the smartest on the planet today.
But don't tell that to Navratilova. Like noted rocket scientist and brain surgeon Ilhan Omar, she genuinely believes that Musk is dumb.

I could keep going, but I think everyone gets the point. There were thousands of replies to and quotes of Navratilova's post, all of them pointing out that it's one thing to disagree with the man, but it is entirely another to deny reality to make you feel better about yourself.

That right there is the part that exasperates me. It doesn't make sense. At least not any rational sense.
I believe that Navratilova is earnest in her efforts to stop the trans takeover of women's sports. Unlike other cowardly female athletes like Megan Rapinoe, Navratilova knows that if she ever had to compete against men, no one on Earth would remember her name today. She knows that the dreams of many young girls are being destroyed by mediocre men.
And yet she can only spit vitriol against one of the loudest voices in the world against trans poison.
Musk knows firsthand how destructive that ideology is and has been. The woke mind virus destroyed his family and killed his son, as he conveyed to Jordan Peterson in 2024.
But Navratilova still can find no common ground with him, or at the very least acknowledge how intelligent and innovative he is?
That is maddeningly frustrating to me. And somehow, I think that says a lot more about her than it does about him.
The easy thing to do, of course, is to dismiss Navratilova as just another broken leftist who can never escape her exclusive circle. And maybe that's the right thing to do.
But Navratilova has been a vocal opponent against trans insanity for a long time, well before it was relatively safe to say so. I don't really want to dismiss her because I know she is capable of making a real difference in that ongoing battle. Like JK Rowling, I don't need her to start voting for every conservative on the ballot. I don't even need her to start liking the President (though I'm willing to bet that she'd be hard-pressed to explain in detail why she hates him so much).
But she needs to stop irrationally despising people like Musk just because her blue bubble tells her she must.
That is what is known in mental health circles as cognitive dissonance.
And I hate to break it to you, Martina, but refusing to recognize that in yourself is, well, not that bright.
