After the midterms delivered a blue wave that left a lot of people in our party staring at their shoes, Ron DeSantis decided it was time to say the quiet part out loud.
Let's be honest, the guy has never been shy when it comes to speaking his mind.
He pointed at the campaign ads slamming Republicans for voting against releasing the Epstein files and called those votes exactly what they were: a betrayal of what we told voters we would do. The Attorney General had already said the material was sitting on her desk and that people would be held accountable. So when members of Congress still chose to block it, DeSantis wasn’t interested in excuses. He called it untenable, and he was right.
He didn’t stop there. He went after the stock-trading racket that has turned Capitol Hill into a personal hedge fund for people who somehow manage to beat Warren Buffett the moment they get elected. DeSantis has never traded stocks while in office. Plenty of his colleagues have. The contrast is embarrassing, and pretending it isn’t part of why voters just rejected the status quo in Washington is the kind of self-delusion that got us here in the first place.
Watch:
🚨 WOW. Gov. Ron DeSantis is GOING OFF right now post-blue tsunami: "I see the ad, 'so and so voted against releasing the Epstein Files.' I'm like, that's a bad vote. We ran as Republicans saying we need to do that. And you have people in Congress voting against release when the Attorney General said she had all the all this horrific stuff on her desk and that people are gonna be held accountable?!" "It's untenable when you have people going in trading stocks! I've never traded stocks since I've been in elected office. How do you have no investment acumen, and then all of a sudden get elected to Congress, and then you're outperforming Warren Buffett?" "I saw how they were running and it was a rejection of what was going on in DC."

Some Republicans are already uncomfortable with the timing. They would rather treat the losses as a messaging problem or a turnout problem than admit that a chunk of the conference spent the last two years protecting the wrong people and padding their own portfolios. DeSantis doesn’t appear to care. He watched the same ads the rest of us did, saw the same numbers, and recognized the results for what they were: a rejection of what was happening in D.C.
That kind of honesty is rare after a loss. Most politicians reach for the softest possible explanation that protects their friends and their own futures. DeSantis is choosing the harder one. Whether or not it helps him later, the party needs more people willing to say the obvious out loud when the obvious is ugly.
Voters already noticed. Pretending they didn’t is how you lose the next one, too.
