As Twitchy's JustMindy reported last night, hero in his own mind and champion of free speech that he likes, Jake Tapper, has ridden in on his white horse to defend vile left-wing activist disguised as a 'comedian,' Jimmy Kimmel.
As a reminder, Kimmel's 'joke' to Melania Trump was wishing that her husband would die.
Hilarious. Side-splitting comedy. Virginia's Jay Jones would be so proud.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before we found, through the trusty Wayback Machine, that Tapper doesn't always stand up for the right of people to make jokes. In 2024, Hall of Fame-bound quarterback and fierce opponent of COVID mandates, Aaron Rodgers, made a joke at Kimmel's expense on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show.
See if you can spot the subtle difference in Tapper's reaction to Rodgers' comments:
Jake Tapper just said that the Trump Admin is trying to censor Jimmy Kimmel over a joke and that it is wrong to do so.

Tapper: "Jokes are not calls for violence. Calls for violence are calls for violence."

Well, well, well. Would you look at that? Tapper not only personally condemned Rodgers for what was obviously a joke (given how everyone laughed, unlike the responses Kimmel gets to his 'jokes'), but he demanded that ESPN and Disney take action against Rodgers and refuse to allow him on their networks.
In the rest of the tweet above, MAZE explains how Tapper's hypocrisy goes even further than that:
... sports show about Jimmy Kimmel being on the Epstein list. Tapper called it wildly irresponsible and dangerous and said that ESPN should not allow Rodgers on air anymore.
One little joke about Jimmy Kimmel being on the Epstein list and Tapper wanted Rodgers banned from TV.
BTW, if that one line from Rodgers in 2024 was so dangerous, Tapper must have definitely spoken out against all the Democrats like Ted Lieu who have called Trump a child r*pist right? Of course not.
CNN had dozens if not hundreds of people on over the past year who made unfounded accusations of Trump being a pedophile. That's exactly why CNN had those people on, to smear Trump.
My favorite part about Tapper's reaction to Rodgers is his air of moral superiority and righteous indignation.
Where was his same moral high-horse when Kimmel wish-casted on his show that Mrs. Trump should be a widow soon?
Now that I think about it, where was Tapper's indignation about the aforementioned Jones, who is now -- disgracefully -- the Attorney General of Virginia?
Tapper almost never discussed Jones on his CNN show in the lead-up to the Virginia 2025 election. When he did, he described Jones as a 'thorn in the Democrats' side.'
Who did Tapper choose to condemn? Former Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin.
From the transcript of CNN's The Lead ONE DAY before the election:
TAPPER: Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, posted on X or Twitter, 'Two bullets in the head of our former speaker, watching his children die in their mother's arms, killing a few cops, these are the values Abigail Spanberger, Barack Obama, and the entire Democrat establishment fully embraced today as they campaigned with their demented attorney general candidate, Jay Jones.
That -- that is obviously a reference to the Jay Jones scandal, the text messages he sent in 2023 that came out, or 2022 that came out about a month or so ago. That's a pretty strong language.'
Tapper then asked Democrat Terry McAuliffe not what he thought about Jones' text messages, but invited him to condemn Youngkin's reaction to them. Because, of course.
To paraphrase Tapper's comment about Disney with respect to Rodgers, 'Why is CNN even allowing this to happen?'
Tapper is not alone in his hypocrisy. It turns out that even Kimmel himself thinks that ABC should fire people for offensive speech.

Ahh, but that was (D)ifferent, obviously. Roseanne Barr didn't say anything so innocent as to suggest the killing of a sitting President, as Kimmel did. She had the audacity to criticize Barack Obama's senior propagandist, Valerie Jarrett.
The horror!
ABC took her show away for that. Immediately. And Kimmel cheered them for it.
The hypocrisy is beyond hilarious https://t.co/hiAwNUfIMm

Well, it's certainly funnier than anything Kimmel has ever said.
Now, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I know, as all Twitchy readers know, that leftist hacks like Tapper don't care even a little bit about their raging hypocrisy.
Because they don't see it as hypocrisy. They honestly believe these situations are not the same. (They're right, in a way. What Kimmel said was far worse than anything Rodgers or Barr ever did.) There is no doubt that if Kimmel had gone full Kathy Griffin and held up an effigial severed Trump head on his show, Tapper would still be defending him for that.
'It was just a joke. Can't the President take a joke?'
It's nauseating.
But the point is not to make Tapper -- or every legacy media apparatchik like him -- see his hypocrisy. He never will.
The point is to make everyone understand that these are not serious people, and they should never be treated as such. Not even remotely.
The hard truth for Kimmel is that he is entirely irrelevant in American political discourse. The only way he can get any attention, ever, is to say something horrible, and then pretend to be the victim when the inevitable (and justified) backlash arrives.
He doesn't make jokes. He IS the joke.
And that is exactly the same dumpster that Jake Tapper belongs in.
