I get that my governor (yes, I threw up in my mouth just writing that) likes to make the rounds at cute little Richmond spots, smiling for the cameras while she pats herself on the back for being the first female anything. But when Abigail Spanberger showed up at Babe’s of Carytown to cheerlead for same-sex marriage and someone asked her about that Cabinet photo she’d just posted, the whole thing turned into peak progressive performance art.
She’d proudly shared a group shot of her team and declared it the most talented and the most diverse Cabinet in state history. The problem is the picture looked like a casting call for every demographic except the one that still makes up a big chunk of the Commonwealth. White men? Apparently optional.
Elon Musk saw it, called the whole thing racist and sexist toward white men, and suddenly the governor had to stand there at a bar event and deal with the fact that her “diversity” flex had just gotten ratioed into next week.

Gov. Abigail Spanberger responded to Elon Musk’s criticism of her Cabinet at a get-out-the-vote event supporting same-sex marriage at Babe’s of Carytown (the oldest lesbian bar on the East Coast) in Richmond.
According to journalist Brad Kutner (who was covering the event), she said of Musk’s allegations of racism/sexism in hiring:
“That he would view the desire to highlight the historic nature of some of our appointments as a negative take… it says more about him and how he spends his time.”
She's such a snotty a-hole.
Here’s the thing I keep coming back to: if the goal was actually the best people for the job, why lead with the skin-color headcount and then act shocked when people notice who’s missing? The full Cabinet does include a couple of white guys, but that wasn’t the photo she chose to post. She chose the one that let her check every box except the one that doesn’t earn her applause from the left.
And now she’s out there at events defending it like the rest of us are the weird ones for pointing out that “diverse” keeps getting redefined to mean “anyone but them.”
Virginia voters put her in office.
Not THIS Virginia voter ... the dumb ones did. Sadly, we have a whole lot of dummies in Virginia.
The same-sex marriage event was supposed to be the soft, friendly stop on the calendar. Instead it became another reminder that Spanberger’s idea of inclusion still comes with a very specific list of who’s allowed in the frame.
