Platner isn’t some random fringe candidate who wandered onto the ballot. He’s the logical endpoint of the 'new team' French and his never-Trump pals have been cheerleading since 2016. While the rest of us were trying to beat back the radical left, French spent nearly a decade trashing Republicans, sneering at Christian Trump voters, and painting anyone who didn’t share his refined sensibilities as a threat to democracy. Every column, every podcast, every smug tweet about how the GOP had lost its soul helped normalize the exact kind of deranged opposition politics that produced Platner.

This is the mess you helped create, David.
