Dear GOP: You Won, Again (for Once, ACT LIKE IT)

AP Photo/Evan Vucci

I'm loathe to use the word 'mandate' when it comes to elections. We live in a republic, and we have federal elections every two years. Given the nature of our government, including the checks-and-balances between the three branches, it's rare that legislation is ever written in stone.

That, of course, is a double-edged sword. It turns certain hot button issues into political footballs that get punted back and forth without ever being (mostly) settled. Like illegal immigration or abortion. How long have we heard Republicans and Democrats say they'll address the issue du jour only to, well, not?

Too many times to count.

But, having seen what the Left did in the run up to and immediately in the aftermath of the election, I am taking the country's complete repudiation of Kamala Harris as nothing short of a full-throated mandate.

We'll start with the Left's openly saying they planned to cement their power via the complete upheaval of government as we know it: nuking the filibuster and packing the Supreme Court.

Mike Lee warned us that if Kamala won, they would do so much more than that:

Post-election, The Daily Wire reached out to Democratic senators to ask their thoughts about the filibuster and court-packing now that Donald Trump was president-elect:

Short writes:

The Daily Wire reached out to every Democrat Senate office, even Sens. Sherrod Brown (OH), Bob Casey (PA), and Jon Tester (MT), who all lost reelection, to ask for their stance on the two subjects. We also reached out to independent Sens. Angus King (ME) and Bernie Sanders (VT), who caucus with Democrats, and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), whose race hasn’t been called. For those who have not publicly supported or who have publicly opposed either the elimination of the filibuster or packing the Supreme Court, they were asked what they would say to their fellow Democrats who have supported such measures.

The Daily Wire also reached out to the incoming Democrat Senators, who all expressed a desire to end the filibuster and pack the Supreme Court (except for Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who is not on record saying she would add Supreme Court seats) to see if they still supported these positions now that Trump won and Republicans have taken back the Senate.

Can you guess what the response was?

I'll sum it up for you:

[Insert Senator's name here]'s office did not respond to a Daily Wire Inquiry

How quickly they've changed their tunes now that they're not in control.

Every Senator's office -- from A to Z -- did not respond to the Daily Wire's request. Are you surprised? I'm not. These are the same people who refused to hold a primary after ousting Joe Biden from the race in favor of a candidate who received zero delegates in 2020 and dropped out before Iowa.

And then Nancy Pelosi has the nerve to say they should have had a primary process.

After saying in September they did, in fact, have a primary.

Either she's as demented as Joe Biden or she's a liar.

Maybe I should embrace the healing power of the word 'and.'

Where were other Democrats? Those so-called 'defenders of democracy' were awfully quiet while one of their leaders lied about how Kamala became the Democratic nominee.

Seems very anti-democratic to me.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the rhetoric. Oh, the rhetoric. We Trump voters are Nazis, garbage, and -- like Trump himself -- a threat to democracy.

If any one of you dear readers can explain to me how people freely voting for a candidate of their choosing, even if the Left dislikes said candidate, is a threat to democracy, I'd be grateful. Because I cannot wrap my head around that sentiment.

This was rhetoric guys like Tim Walz not only espoused, but doubled down on, even though he remains mystified as to why so many voters rejected him and his running mate. Walz isn't alone in this doubling down. The media and Left (but I repeat myself) have spent the last five days calling voters racist, sexist, homophobic, and dangerous.

I can only speak for myself, but I think I have more in common with the average voter than Oprah Winfrey, and being called garbage because I wasn't going to vote for Kamala isn't the way to convince me. In fact, it's a surefire way to get me to do the exact opposite.

More on that in a moment.

We also cannot forget the polling. Once again, it was a catastrophic failure on par with the Titanic. Like the Titanic, the people steering the ship were so arrogant and confident that they were unsinkable, they didn't see the iceberg coming until they hit it.

I could write a book on the myriad polls that missed the mark, but the most egregious example is the Ann Selzer/Des Moines Register poll.

Selzer had Trump down by three points.

Insane is putting it mildly, and the election results demonstrated just how insane.

After years of Iowa being a reliably red state, Selzer had the audacity to say Kamala was ahead by three points.

Trump won by 13.2%.

It was a lie. A lie meant to suppress voter turnout and sow doubt in the electorate. Days before the election, even The New York Times admitted the polls were underestimating Trump. It defied logic and couldn't withstand even the most basic scrutiny.

We should never trust another poll. Ever.

In the last couple of days, we also learned FEMA -- under the Biden-Harris administration -- openly discriminated against Trump supporters in Florida, working under orders to skip houses that displayed Trump campaign signs and flags.

Whistleblowers came forward with the story.

These are the same people who say Donald Trump will imprison and punish his political opponents.

Projection much?

What all this comes down to -- the authoritarian tendencies of the Left, the hateful rhetoric, the intentionally inaccurate polls, the open discrimination -- is this: the Democrats need to be taught a lesson.

And they need to be taught it good and hard. This is the closest a Republican will come, in my mind, to having a mandate and the GOP better damn well use it.

What does that look like? I don't have all the answers, but this is a good place to start:

I would also suggest using the GOP majorities in the House and Senate to repeal Obamacare and reform Medicare so that -- unlike FEMA -- Lefty doctors can't deny healthcare to patients who are politically conservative. And that's exactly the argument I'd put before the American people -- 72 million of whom voted for Donald Trump.

'The Democratic Party wanted to deny you disaster aid because of how you voted. We're getting them out of healthcare so they can't do the same thing with your medical treatment.'

Time and again, the Left has shown us they will gladly abuse their power. They will end the filibuster, expand the court, and use their power to discriminate against Americans who don't toe the Democratic Party line. They will manipulate the polls to mislead us, and then call us garbage when we don't vote for them.

The second Donald Trump takes the oath of office, he should get to work making sure they face the consequences of their actions and that they'll think long and hard before trying any of it again.
