That "affordability" was nice while it lasted, wasn't it, Democrat voters?
Too bad it lasted for all of about five minutes.
If you live in Virginia as I do, you've seen this before. One year ago, to be precise. Abigail Spanberger campaigned on making Virginia more affordable (and hating Donald Trump), but ever since she was elected in 2025, Virginia's governor and her Democrat majorities in the state legislature have done nothing but make everything — EVERYTHING — in the Commonwealth more expensive and more dangerous.
We Virginians tried to warn the rest of the country, but to no avail. Democrats sold the lies of affordability and "free" healthcare in 2026, and far too many people fell for it. Sure enough, as soon as they knew they would have majorities in the House and Senate, those campaign promises went right out the window.
Democrats have one priority for the 120th Congress, and they aren't hiding it now that they are set to be in charge.
That priority is punishing their political opponents.
The next chair of the House Oversight Committee, Robert Garcia, has told new White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to "lawyer up." Here he is explaining to Dana Bash what crimes he believes Miller has committed:

Oh, wait. I'm sorry. Garcia didn't cite a single crime. Not one statute, not a shred of evidence.
They have power now, and they are going to try to make Miller hurt. Because they can.
Garcia isn't alone. Texas Congressman Gene Wu hates Elon Musk. He hates him so much that he is vowing to prosecute Musk for what he claims are a laundry list of offenses. But even in the friendly confines of MS NOW, Wu is unable to cite a single crime.

Of course Wu doesn't say. That's because the 'crime' Elon committed is funding Republican campaigns in Texas. That's what they believe deserves punishment.

These are not isolated cases.
All across X, Democrats are using the platform Musk bought to unleash free speech in America to promise that they will punish him severely for that.
Some are even going much further, indulging in fever dreams of executing Musk for being a "traitor."
Scott Galloway calls Elon Musk a “traitor to the West” and invokes the Rosenbergs, who were EXECUTED after WWII. GALLOWAY: “We took the Rosenbergs and put them up against a wall and executed them for being traitors.” “And I realize this is an incendiary statement, but I’ll make it and I believe it. I think Elon Musk is a traitor to the West.” “If this had happened in any other age where we were not obsessed with innovators and money, a much different reaction would be playing out to Elon Musk.” These people are absolutely unhinged. CONTEXT: Scott Galloway is not some random but a bestselling author with a top podcast who regularly appears on cable news. His net worth is over $100 million, and he’s openly suggesting Musk deserves death. This is what the Democratic Party has become, and people voted for it.

Did you catch the part where Scott Galloway cited the crimes against the United States that would constitute prosecuting and executing Musk for treason?
No, you didn't. That's because he didn't.
Democrats have spent the entire Trump era creating a permission structure for political violence. And it worked. From Tyler Robinson to Luigi Mangione to Renee Good trying to run over an ICE officer with her SUV, they have told their foot soldiers that assaulting and killing people who disagree with you is A-OK.
Now that they have power, they can't wait to institutionalize that political violence.
If it all sounds very familiar, that's because it's happened before. Many times.
Cardinal Richelieu said in the 17th century, "Show me six lines written by the most honest man in the world, and I will find enough therein to hang him."
Most infamously, after World War II, Josef Stalin's chief of secret police, Lavrentiy Beria, said, "Show me the man, and I will show you the crime."
This is the mandate that Democrats believe they have after the midterms. Not affordability. Not free healthcare. Not even ending the war in Iran or cutting off foreign aid. Abdul El-Sayed campaigned relentlessly on those pillars in Michigan. Right after the election, what did he say about foreign aid?

El-Sayed also campaigned on getting money out of politics. It took him all of about five seconds to form a Super PAC after he won his election.
It was all a lie. As any Virginian could have told anyone in Michigan or Texas or Minnesota, had they asked.
No, the real mandate that Democrats believe they have is a mandate to reconstitute the Soviet NKVD in America.
It's obvious to everyone, including and especially Musk himself.

They're going to do it. Or at least try. Their masks are fully off, and they are laughing at the useful idiots who believed their campaign promises, even as they are jotting down their lists of enemies.
The only consolation I take in all of this is that Democrats never look at the fullness of history. They only pick and choose the parts they like and that serve their agenda.
They're salivating right now about a new American NKVD.
But I'll bet none of them know how things worked out for Lavrentiy Beria after Nikita Khrushchev took control.
