Legacy Media Is Dead, but Journalism Is Alive and Well — and Under Attack

AP Photo/Gillian Flaccus

A few days ago, I wrote about the sins of omission committed by the legacy media, as exemplified by their blackout of any coverage of the violence taking place in Portland, Oregon. Violence against ICE specifically, but also against residents of the city, who live in fear of Antifa domestic terrorists.

And violence against journalists as well.

One of the reporters whom I applauded for the courage to cover what is actually taking place on the ground in Portland was Katie Daviscourt of The Post Millennial. While CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and the rest of the legacy media were losing their minds over a sombrero, Daviscourt and others were showing America what was really happening in the City of Roses.

Because she was well acquainted with Antifa's violent tendencies, Daviscourt even brought her own security guard with her to Portland, and she needed it.

Protection from a terrorist mob is a great idea, but it can only go so far.

This is what Daviscourt looked like just a couple of days later.

It gets worse.

If anyone doubts that federal law enforcement is desperately needed in Portland, Daviscourt talked to Jesse Watters of Fox News about her assault.

And how Portland police refused to do anything about it.

Watch:

On her X account, Daviscourt posted a video of the assault (and Antifa assaulting someone who came to help her) as well as her attempt to chase down the perpetrator because police refused to do it.

This is not surprising to anyone who has been paying attention to Portland in recent years. Residents of the city who live near the ICE facility have been under attack as well, and the police barely pay any attention to them. As Watters noted in the clip above, they have simply ceded the territory to the criminals.

Hopefully, federal law enforcement will put an end to that cowardice, but Daviscourt's assault begs another question. It will be a rhetorical question because I know the answer, and so do you.

Where is the legacy media to stand in solidarity with a fellow journalist?

Other than Fox News, who else is inviting Daviscourt and her scarred face on the air to talk about how she was assaulted?

The legacy news media collectively threw a conniption because Jimmy Kimmel's employer put him in timeout for a few days. They called it an all-out attack on the media and free speech. Kimmel was back broadcasting a show to his dozen viewers before their coffee could get cold, but when there is a true attack, a violent attack, on the media and free speech, what do we hear from them?

Crickets.

Come to think of it, where was Kimmel himself? If he is such a champion of freedom of the press, why hasn't he invited Daviscourt on his show to stand in solidarity with her? Granted, she probably gets more views on X than his show could dream of, but it would be a good symbolic gesture in any case.

He doesn't care. Most of the legacy media do not care. On the contrary, I would not be surprised if they were secretly applauding the assault. In Kimmel's case, he's likely to applaud it on air, just like he mocked Charlie Kirk's assassination.

The media loves to hold itself up as heroes, pretending they are Edward R. Murrow reporting from London during the Blitz.

They are not. Because they are not journalists. They are cowards, and Murrow would be ashamed of them.

People like Daviscourt are the journalists and the heroes. And Andy Ngo, who nearly lost his life to Antifa thugs and still goes out and reports on them every day. (Legacy media outlets didn't care about that assault either.)

By contrast, if Anderson Cooper ever got so much as a hangnail, he would likely require two weeks of paid leave.

Taking out the criminal trash in Portland is a law enforcement problem, and I hope that federal LEOs will address it just like they are trying to do in Washington, DC, Memphis, and other cities.

But the legacy media's cowardice is a societal problem. And it only has one solution. Continuing to mock them, call them out on their failures, and cast them into the dustbin of history. There is no saving that institution.

I don't think a week has gone by in the past year that I haven't written about the death of the legacy media. But journalism itself is not dead.

It is under attack, though, and Daviscourt has the black eye to prove it. (Thankfully, that's all she has.)

If you're looking for people who are holding up the tradition of Murrow, you won't find them in the New York studios of CNN.

You'll find them on the streets of Portland.
