CNN couldn’t resist the chance to dangle a horrific modern-day lynching narrative in front of its audience after a black woman was found hanging from a tree in Mississippi.
The network’s coverage leaned hard into the racial imagery and historical baggage, carefully omitting the one detail that ruins the entire storyline: her black boyfriend is the person of interest who’s already been arrested and questioned by police. Nothing says “responsible journalism” quite like omitting the most relevant fact so the preferred narrative can remain intact.
Forget not hating the media enough.
