Ed Sheeran is a talented musician. He built a career and millions of fans by writing sappy but catchy love songs and not getting embroiled in leftist politics like so many other lesser-talented musicians do, because it's the only way they can get attention.
But Ed Sheeran should have stuck to what he does best.
Last night, Sheeran broke his silence about the recent Macklemore scandal, in which Macklemore was kicked off of Sheeran's tour as a supporting act because of his virulent hatred of Jews. Sheeran had nothing to do with booting the no-talent Macklemore and had not commented on the decision previously.
When he finally did last night, the result was a disaster.

Now, he has some nice things to say here because, in general, Sheeran is a nice guy.
However, I couldn't help but notice that, in the same breath, he said that "he didn't know enough" about the war in Gaza, and yet called Israel's counterattack after the horrific pogrom perpetrated by Hamas "inexcusable."
And in those hypocritical, ignorant comments, almost certainly written by his label or publicist, Sheeran just brought himself a whole world of new trouble.
No such thing as a lukewarm hell buddy. No one who hated you before is going to like you and a whole bunch of people who liked you now hate you. https://t.co/p8eHGOcK6g

And this is exactly what ensued, as everyone knew that it would.
The people who, like Macklemore, hate all Jews were not going to forgive and forget. They never do. They want to control him, so they will continue to force him into struggle sessions.

Yep. We've seen it before. And the backlash from the "Free Palestine" crowd was even more hateful, if that's even possible.
how does he speak so clearly for having Netanyahu and Robert Kraft’s hebrew nationals in his mouth https://t.co/hOMllPQiTV

His views are very clear when he doesn’t call it what it is. It’s a genocide

What a gross, spineless thing https://t.co/nFsAPwLogf

— 𝓔𝓶 ♡ (@emkenobi) September 20, 2026
- immediately starts with October 7th
- still won’t call it a genocide
- says he doesn’t know enough about what’s happening
- makes no apology to Macklemore or addresses dropping him from the tour
- doesn’t mention where his donation will be going to… https://t.co/DsIkGYy1pI
... - doesn’t encourage anyone to donate
- won’t say Israel is the reason Gaza is suffering
- won’t say free Palestine
- only cries when he sees people showed up to the concert because that’s what he cares more about.
If that reads like the list of demands from a terrorist who is holding hostages, it's only because that's exactly what it is.
It only makes sense that it comes from the pro-Hamas nutjobs.
Of course he had to mention October 7 first. https://t.co/WXxjTIlkyk
— Hamza Yusuf (@Hamza_a96) September 20, 2026
Yes, how DARE he mention the act of brutal mass rape and murder that started the conflict!
You get the idea. I don't want to dwell any longer on the lunatic rantings of people who don't know what a genocide is and have never once looked up the definition of the word "consequences."
They're insane. That's the point. And Sheeran thought he could placate them with a scripted, weepy apology. No chance.
Meanwhile, his characterization of Jews defending themselves against people who want to wipe them off the face of the Earth as "inexcusable" bought him an entire new slew of enemies and criticisms.
Families were burned alive in their homes.

Women were tied, raped, and then killed.
Children were shot to death.
Ed Sheeran, you should be ashamed. https://t.co/4ZtDsNfPea
October 7th was unjustifiable. https://t.co/JPp9EqJVNe

Israel's actions are more than justifiable.
F*** Ed Sheeran.

I dunno. I think the systematic rape and murder of 1200 civilians is a pretty good justification.
— AmishDude (@TheAmishDude) September 20, 2026
Sheeran may have mentioned October 7 in his scripted statement, but he clearly "doesn't know enough" (to use his own words) about what actually happened on that day.
He couldn't have made that more obvious.
Just what the world needs, another weepy Irish git bending over for the mob.

Sheeran had nothing to apologize for. He didn't kick Macklemore off his tour. He didn't force other supporting acts to drop out. He didn't do anything other than play his music.
But he did something last night, that's for sure. And that something was stepping right into the Marxist trap.
He could have saved himself a lot of trouble by just listening to the timeless words of Dana Loesch:
*taps the sign* https://t.co/4yfd8h7rv2

It was true the moment she posted that tweet, it is true today, and it will always be true.
Never. Ever. https://t.co/q9FOGroACn

Had Sheeran simply remained himself and focused on the only thing he has ever focused on, he would still have far-left lunatics hating him, sure, but the rest of the sane world would just regard him as what he always wanted to be regarded as: a great musician.
Instead, those leftists still hate him today, and the rest of the world thinks he's a coward.
Because he showed everyone that's exactly what he is.
He's done. https://t.co/vPeedzQXC7

We'll all have to wait and see about that. But he didn't do himself any favors last night; that's for sure.
I never thought much about Sheeran before this controversy. His music is fine and very pleasant, if not necessarily my personal taste. To be honest, I never thought much about him DURING the controversy before last night. As I have noted, he didn't do anything to Macklemore. Macklemore did it all to himself. Sheeran just kept performing.
"Good for him" was about the extent of my thoughts about him.
Of course, he has a right to his opinions, and to speak them out loud, like everyone else. But that's not what happened last night. If there's anything that was clear about the statement he read, it was that he didn't write it or put any thought into it. It did not contain his opinions about Israel or Gaza; it was his record company's attempt to negotiate with terrorists and their supporters.
Last night, Ed Sheeran took and followed orders.
As a result, today the people who issued those orders still hate him, and so does pretty much everyone else.

To be honest, I still probably won't think about Sheeran much going forward. If his career remains strong, I'll have no problem with it. If his album and ticket sales start to tank, he'll have no one to blame but himself.
But whenever I do think about him, I won't see a talented musician anymore.
I will see a ginger version of Winston Smith.
