Elizabeth Warren loves her some government overreach. Which is ironic considering what her people, the Native Americans, have been through.
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
But yeah, she’s a huge fan of the government getting its grubby little hands in every single aspect of our lives. Student loan debt is no exception. And in her opinion, student loan debt cancellation is not only the right thing to do, but it’s basically Joe Biden’s duty as our president. And “experts agree”:
Experts agree that @POTUS has the authority to cancel student debt. Middle-class families need this relief, and Republican officials and their extremist allies need to get out of their way.https://t.co/VNwnYeiszJ

On Wednesday, over a dozen groups filed amicus-curiae briefs to the Supreme Court expressing support for Biden’s plan to forgive up to $20,000 in student debt for federal borrowers. This is a critical time for student-loan borrowers — the Supreme Court on February 28 will hear oral arguments on the two lawsuits that blocked Biden’s debt relief and ultimately decide whether millions of borrowers will resume payments this year with or without a reduction to their loan balances.
The briefs covered a variety of topics, from the plaintiffs’ standing to sue to the student-loan company MOHELA’s role in one of the cases. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement that they reflected “the strength of our legal positions versus the fundamentally flawed lawsuits aimed at denying millions of working and middle-class borrowers debt relief.”
“As these diverse groups made clear today, student loan borrowers from all walks of life suffered profound financial harms during the pandemic and their continued recovery and successful repayment hinges on the Biden Administration’s student debt relief plan,” Cardona said. “We will continue to defend our legal authority to provide the debt relief working and middle-class families clearly need and deserve.”
First of all, the federal government and Democratic Party caused profound financial harms to plenty of people without student loan debt, too. And second of all, the Biden administration has no legal authority whatsoever to cancel student debt at the expense of American taxpayers.
Elizabeth Warren may be a progressive Democrat who says a lot of stupid things, but she herself is not stupid enough to actually believe that the Biden administration has the legal authority Cardona claims they do. She knows that they don’t; she just doesn’t care. Because, well, she’s a progressive Democrat. And her own personal expertise is in lying to people.

All the biased experts can agree, but the Supreme Court and the constitution will make the decision. Nancy Pelosi said he did not have that authority.

Nancy Pelosi was right when she said that, too. The fact that she changed her mind didn’t change that.
“Experts”😂. Yeah ok. No it’s actually not constitutional Elizabeth.

GP The Constitution agrees the president lacks the authority to cancel student debt.
I truly hope you keep overreaching. Eventually SCOTUS will tire of your end-running and rein in or end the administrative state. https://t.co/2yLfkXYHMo

The way things have been trending, we can’t be too sure that the administrative state can really ever be well and truly reined in. But we can hope, at least.
