Our favorite “Two Bullets” Attorney General Jay Jones decided to go full solo artist and tell the Supreme Court that AR-15s are not “Arms” protected by the Second Amendment.
Let me repeat that for the people in the back: America’s most common rifle — tens of millions of them in civilian hands, used for home defense, hunting, competition, and yes, pure American fun — is, according to the man who once texted about putting two bullets in a Republican colleague’s head, not actually an arm.
The brief’s argument is pure performance art. AR-15s are basically machine guns (of course, he spelled it as one word, seriously), Jones claims, except they fire semi-automatically… at least until someone uses a bump stock, an auto sear, or some other device that turns them into something else. In other words: because a tool could be modified into something banned, the original tool isn’t protected. That’s like saying cars aren’t vehicles because you can theoretically strap a rocket to one.

Even better? Virginia filed this thing alone. FPC noted it right away — other blue states apparently looked at this steaming pile and said “nah, we’re good.”
You guys… Virginia has the dumbest AG in the country and it isn’t even close. @AGJayJones thinks an AR15 shouldn’t be covered by the Second Amendment because it not one of the arms protected. I got nothin’.

When your legal theory is too crazy for the usual suspects to sign onto, maybe sit with that for a minute. This is the same Jay Jones who, in 2022, texted that if he had two bullets and had to choose between shooting a GOP House Speaker, Hitler, and Pol Pot, the Speaker “gets two bullets to the head.” He followed it up by calling the Speaker’s kids “little fascists.” Now he’s the top law enforcement officer in Virginia arguing that the rifle millions of law-abiding Virginians own isn’t even covered by the Constitution.
The cognitive dissonance is breathtaking. The guy who treated political violence as a fun hypothetical is now pretending the most popular defensive rifle in the country is some exotic, unprotected war machine. It’s not. It’s the modern equivalent of the arms the Founders expected free people to own. Jones can keep filing these briefs. The rest of us will keep laughing, shooting, and reminding everyone that “shall not be infringed” doesn’t come with a Jay Jones exception.
