Chanel Rion has receipts for how the briefing-room club really works, and the Biden years were the punchline.
After the White House Correspondents’ Association stripped OANN from the seating rotation and treated the network like an uninvited guest, the Biden White House did not restore the access the Trump press office had given her. Her literal workspace disappeared.
Conservative outlets that asked the wrong questions were left begging a private association for leftover crumbs while the administration tightened hard-pass rules, held fewer formal press conferences than recent predecessors, and still pretended it was the champion of a free press.
That is why Rion’s fight with the WHCA never looked like a personality spat. It looked like what happens when the “wrong” network gets shown the door and the administration is happy to leave it there.
