This is terrifying.
Thereâs a California bill that could ban the sale of books advocating Christian sexual morality and theological orthodoxy? Seriously? Yes, seriously. A grotesquely unconstitutional bill is sailing through the California assembly: https://t.co/OFNco4DAvH
â David French (@DavidAFrench) April 17, 2018
From the National Review:
Assembly Bill 2943 would make it an âunlawful business practiceâ to engage in âa transaction intended to result or that results in the sale or lease of goods or services to any consumerâ that advertise, offer to engage in, or do engage in âsexual orientation change efforts with an individual.â
The bill then defines âsexual orientations change effortsâ as âany practices that seek to change an individualâs sexual orientation. This includes efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex.â (Emphasis added.)
Whether or not you agree with the goods in question, that any government would knowingly work to ban any such goods is a huge red flag.
Even in California.
David's mad that California thinks torturing gay kids until they say they're straight is bad, apparently. https://t.co/XSP3D3XA7f
â Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) April 19, 2018
Thatâs not what David said.
California law already rightly bans torture. This is about speech, but you know that. https://t.co/cZZVDQnreL
â David French (@DavidAFrench) April 19, 2018
She does know that.
Or does she?
Nah. It's not. You don't get to go around trying to Jesus gay and trans kids into not being gay and trans, you little weirdo. https://t.co/gFM8E2MnAC
â Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) April 19, 2018
Huh?
The bill deals with more than just kids, but you know that. It goes beyond âconversion therapy,â but you know that. https://t.co/74xwkMFtaJ
â David French (@DavidAFrench) April 19, 2018
Itâs about government overstepping and banning the sale of any good; any person who supports free speech and free ideas should absolutely condemn this bill regardless of their personal beliefs around the LGBTQ community. Imagine the fit theyâd throw if a state was banning books or goods promoting the gay community.
Theyâd lose their minds.
Trying to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity is conversion therapy. Facts don't care about your feelings, David. https://t.co/jh6olQLfmH
â Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) April 19, 2018
We feel like weâre saying, âOh boy,â a lot today.
Oh boy.
The bill is broader than that. But, again, you know that. https://t.co/2LqlinOmng
â David French (@DavidAFrench) April 19, 2018
Davey, there is zero mention of "book" or "books" in this bill. You're just making shit up because you're a total fraud. https://t.co/PTjzvwLO0a
â Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) April 19, 2018
What does Parker think goods are? Books are absolutely a good.
Books are âgoods.â The bill pertains to the sale of goods. https://t.co/f0eKLxwtLj
â David French (@DavidAFrench) April 19, 2018
But she knows that.
This is like me saying "It pertains to the sale of goods. Cheese is a good," and then arguing that this bill bans Christian cheese. You arguing that this bans books is just a straight-up lie, you hack. https://t.co/ddOUCbZqT4
â Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) April 19, 2018
The bill encompasses efforts to change behavior, not just orientation or identity. A book urging gay celibacy would be covered. Look at the definition of âsexual orientation change efforts.â (By the way, even the book you describe below would be protected by the First Amendment.) https://t.co/0xV05rFK0q
â David French (@DavidAFrench) April 19, 2018
Weâll say it again ⌠but she knows that.
Heh.
