The allegations against Roy Moore have caused Republicans such as John McCain to say that Moore should step down and end his candidacy. Former Massachusetts governor and GOP 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney agreed with McCain:
Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections. I believe Leigh Corfman. Her account is too serious to ignore. Moore is unfit for office and should step aside.

And like McCain’s statement, Romney’s call on Moore to leave the race didn’t contain the “if true” caveat about the allegations. Meanwhile, Moore has said he will not back down.
Romney is one of the few Republicans who doesn't have the "if true" in his statement, even goes further by saying "I believe Leigh" https://t.co/nVegZsvaTe
