It's really been amazing to see the panic over Mike Johnson becoming House Speaker. As I reported earlier, Reuters did a deep dig into Johnson's ancestry and found ties to slavery. They also found ancestral ties to slavery to President Joe Biden and more than 100 members of Congress — but the entire focus of the article was on Johnson, who opposes reparations.
I'm looking at our archives and the way they've made Johnson worse than Hitler is astounding. The Left has even updated its playbook, saying that it's not white supremacy that's the biggest danger to our country, but Christian nationalism.
An "unearthed clip" showed Johnson promoting an app called "Covenant Eyes" that was meant to keep you from looking at porn on the internet. CNN unearthed audio of Johnson calling humans "inherently evil" and abortion a "holocaust." Eternal scold David French published a piece about "MAGA Mike Johnson" and "our broken Christian politics."
"Mike Johnson and what he believes is one of the greatest threats we have today to the United States," James Carville told Bill Maher before adding that Christian nationalists are "a bigger threat than al-Qaeda to this country."
The media continues to "unearth" material for hit pieces on Johnson. ABC News reported that an unearthed segment of a 2015 German TV news segment showed Johnson attending a "purity ball" with his daughter.

How predictable—the corporate media is vilifying @SpeakerJohnson's parenting.

Apparently, teaching our daughters self-respect is a crime now? As a father of three daughters, I'd take a page out of Speaker Johnson's book any day of the week. pic.twitter.com/tmhleukO3O
ABC says it's just "the latest example of Johnson's deeply held views." You mean Christian views? Is that the problem?
Remember when Newsweek and Reuters and the Democrats tried to scuttle Justice Amy Coney Barrett's nomination by revealing that she was a member of People of Praise, which Newsweek said inspired "The Handmaid's Tale." Senator Dianne Feinstein told Barrett: “The dogma lives loudly within you.” Meanwhile, Joe Biden is a "devout Catholic" and that's just fine.
I'm sorry that Christianity is so scary to so many people.
