Dem House Candidate Will Lawrence Says He Let DSA Membership Lapse for Sake of Constituents

Democrats should be trying to distance themselves from their crazy Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) members who keep winning primaries. But here’s a new one: A DSA member who is distancing himself from the DSA. That’s what happened in Michigan, where Democrat House candidate Will Lawrence says he’s no longer DSA because he let his membership lapse. Seems pretty convenient with the general election looming in early November, you think?

Oops, it turns out that a DSA membership in arrears doesn’t equal an expulsion. Looks like Lawrence is still in the commie club even without an up-to-date membership card.

Yep. Per the DSA Constitution and Bylaws, nonpayment of dues causes loss of good standing and eventual membership lapse (with a 30-day window to cure by paying). Expulsion is a distinct formal process requiring written notice, a hearing, and a two-thirds National Political Committee vote for substantial disagreement with principles or undemocratic behavior.
