As Twitchy told you, earlier this week, James O’Keefe and Project Veritas released undercover video footage featuring a staffer of Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill letting slip that McCaskill might have her eye on a ban on all semiautomatic weapons.
Obviously, that’s not the kind of thing McCaskill would want the public to know about in the weeks leading up to her election, so she’s taking action to punish O’Keefe for helping to expose the depth of her gun control agenda:

More from the Kansas City Star:
U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill’s campaign is demanding Attorney General Josh Hawley open a fraud investigation into hidden-camera videos released this week by a nonprofit run by conservative activist James O’Keefe.
The videos show O’Keefe’s Project Veritas Action Fund going undercover to secretly interview members of McCaskill’s campaign. The group, a 501c4 nonprofit, advertised the videos as proof that McCaskill, a Democrat, has been hiding her views on guns and abortion from Missouri voters.
McCaskill and Hawley, a Republican, are in a tight election race that could help determine which party controls the U.S. Senate.
David Kirby, McCaskill’s campaign manager, said in a conference call with reporters on Wednesday that there is reason to believe Project Veritas committed fraud that violated the state’s merchandising practices act.
For what it’s worth, Josh Hawley doesn’t seem interested in playing McCaskill’s game:
Let’s review last 24 hrs. 1) @clairecmc & staff caught on tape telling the truth 2) McCaskill accuses ME of fraud 3) McCaskill demands Missouri give her special prosecutor to investigate her truth telling #MOsen

Senator, accusing people of crimes is a serious thing. If you have evidence of a crime, please come forward with it immediately. Otherwise, please stop politicizing the legal process for your reelection. #MOsen

Does McCaskill even have any semblance of a case?
I am not a lawyer (nor a O'Keefe supporter) but this strikes me as absurd on its face and highly inappropriate on McCaskill's part. pic.twitter.com/2FMmWX9awt

The Missouri Merchandising Practices Act makes it illegal to commit fraud "in connection with the sale or advertisement of any merchandise in trade or commerce or the solicitation of any funds for any charitable purpose."
Exactly what part of that did Project Veritas violate?

James O’Keefe would also like to know the answer to that question:
Senator McCaskill – where is the "fraud" in these undercover videos of your campaign staffers explaining your real agenda "could hurt your ability to get elected?" All I see is your staff being honest, saying behind closed doors what you'd never say on the campaign trail. pic.twitter.com/kmb3XlxtxM
— James O'Keefe (@JamesOKeefeIII) October 18, 2018
This is absurd, Claire McCaskill is trying to criminalize investigative journalism. On the bright side, it will lead to more media covering the undercover videos (https://t.co/KbrbQKZIPG) https://t.co/M5Ne35WUdG

McCaskill’s attempt to take down O’Keefe exposes not only her desperation and vindictiveness, but also her incompetence:
McCaskill threatening to go after @JamesOKeefeIII and @Project_Veritas because they exposed her apparent support for a full on semi-auto rifle ban and hidden agenda. Wouldn’t be a story if she had just been transparent with voters. https://t.co/zGGVw4CMf5
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) October 18, 2018
Well, at least she’s transparent in one respect: We see right through her and Democrats’ hypocrisy.
It's weird that hidden-camera exposés are great except when they embarrass Democrats. https://t.co/lrVkfXtPLt
