Jessica Valenti chose to share an interesting lesson her daughter learned in second grade.

In second grade … really?
Most second graders are seven or eight years old, that seems a little young to this editor to be overly concerned about someone’s sexuality. She’s proud of this?
And they wonder why so many people have concerns about the public education system in this country:
Thanks for the PSA about why homeschooling is a good idea https://t.co/w3EBIS8Ke7

HA! Katie NAILED it.
You know Jessica will HATE THIS.
Which makes it even funnier.

Hey, thanks, Jessica!
I appreciate the efforts in trying to educate early on, but this seems excessive in my opinion. I think this should be something taught by parents and stressed in sex-ed. Maybe not 2nd grade? Just my thoughts.

Too early.
Wow. This is wrong. Shame on that school and that teacher. Little kids do not need to learn about romantic feelings in school in SECOND GRADE.
— Jill (@11MyJam) April 23, 2018
Wow. How ridiculous. Kids don’t understand math, science, history, or grammar when they graduate, yet you’ll drill this nonsense into their head before they even understand what “romance” is.
Public schools suck.

But why? Just because people decided to come up with some non science based names to describe themselves why is it my responsibility to know what they are?

Or a second grader’s?
You honestly believe that should be taught in 2nd grade? Also, I’m sure the students didn’t write that banner, the teacher did. What if a family doesn’t believe in that being taught in that grade? What’s their recourse?

Even folks from the LGBTQ community were concerned with this:
I'm gay and I have to say I'm disgusted if this is truly being taught in Elementary grades. Kids should be allowed to be kids and sex or attraction isn't something you care about in the 2nd grade. Let them have fun and learn what's important in life first. #idiots

Idiots indeed.
Why does this feel like it’s more for you than the good of your kids
— Populists Progress (@popservatives) April 23, 2018
Ouch.
And true.
