Earlier today California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who clearly has his sights set on running for president at some point, floated an idea for a 28th Amendment to the Constitution in the name of what he called “gun safety freedoms” (could that sound more Orwellian?).
NEW: I’m proposing the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to help end our nation’s gun violence crisis.
The American people are sick of Congress’ inaction.
The 28th will enshrine 4 widely supported gun safety freedoms — while leaving the 2nd Amendment intact:

This progressive pipe dream falls into the “good luck with that” category:
California Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled a proposal Thursday to amend the US Constitution to restrict gun ownership rights, including enforcing universal background checks and raising the firearm purchase age to 21.
The Democrat said his “28th Amendment” — which he claims will leave the Second Amendment “unchanged” — calls for four new measures to help end what he called the nation’s “gun violence crisis.”
Here’s Newsom’s 28th Amendment vision in four parts:
The 28th will enshrine 4 widely supported gun safety freedoms — while leaving the 2nd Amendment intact:
1) Raising the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21
2) Universal background checks
3) A reasonable waiting period for gun purchases
4) Banning the civilian purchase of assault weapons
As usual, Democrats can rest easy knowing the MSM is ready, willing and able to help them promote their ideas no matter how unlikely they are to happen. Here’s how The TODAY Show reported Newsom’s idea:

“Historic announcement”?
If passed, this would restrict access to guns in all 50 states.@jacobsoboroff shares the details of Gov. Newsom’s exclusive announcement. https://t.co/b86boidIBa

Yep, and it really depends on how loose your definition of “historic” is…
Really torturing the definition of "historic" here https://t.co/0TGjMx7BLY

In what way is this a "historic announcement"? A governor is calling for something that is very, very unlikely to happen. https://t.co/OFxuBTpQCb

The only thing that’s clearly “historic” is the level of media hackery.

This isn’t historic, it’s stupid and won’t ever happen. But the lefties probably believe @GavinNewsom can do this. 🤣 https://t.co/TwQjtkpY5p

So incredibly historic no one will remember it by next Wednesday. https://t.co/k8jkZ6uY3E

I’ll be surprised if Newsom’s idea even surives that long in the news cycle.
