Eleven attorneys general target gas stoves, which have a disparate impact on underserved communities

It was back in January when the Washington Post reported that it was Republicans who have “thrust gas stoves … into the culture wars” — after a Democrat in the administration said they were looking at a ban. Then, a week later, the Washington Post reported that there was growing pressure to ban gas stoves. The New Republic said there was no ban happening, and Joe Scarborough made fun of Republicans who were having a “meltdown” over gas stoves.

At the same time, liberal outlets like the New York Times were reporting that banning gas stoves would be good for both the environment and your health. Since then, New York State has banned gas lines running to new buildings, which sure sounds like a ban on gas stoves.

Washington, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb has announced that he and ten other attorneys general were calling on the federal government to address the health and safety risk of gas stoves, which disproportionately affected “underserved communities.”

We posted a very good thread on where the research stands on gas stoves and childhood asthma — there is a risk if you happen to seal off all the doors and windows to your kitchen with plastic sheeting when you cook.

We’d love to see some Community Notes appended to that claim that gas stoves have a negative impact on children.

What doesn’t have a disparate negative impact on underserved communities? What are underserved communities, anyway? Poor people, right?
