WaPo: Some Democrats aren't that confident about Kamala Harris' political prospects

President Joe Biden handed off a lot of responsibilities to his vice president, Kamala Harris. It was up to her to find the root causes of mass immigration at the southern border. She was also charged with chairing the National Space Council, which brought us that totally authentic video of her speaking to child actors about space. She also really likes Venn diagrams.

If Biden is reelected, God forbid, he’d be 86 at the end of his second term. A lot of us never thought he’d make it through his first term, which made us awfully nervous. There was a whole lot of chatter about replacing Harris with, say, Pete Buttigieg.

The Washington Post talked to quite a few prominent Democrats who don’t have a lot of confidence in Harris’ political prospects, either as a vice president in Biden’s second term or as a presidential candidate in 2028.

The Washington Post reports:

Now, [Jacquelyn] Bettadapur is worried about the political prospects of the woman positioned to be President Biden’s heir — Vice President Harris.

“People are poised to pounce on anything — any misstep, any gaffe, anything she says — and so she’s probably not getting the benefit of the doubt,” said Bettadapur, who recently stepped down as county party chair. Many Democrats, Bettadapur said, “don’t know enough about what she’s doing” — and, she added, “it doesn’t help that she’s not [that] adept as a communicator.”

Such concerns about Harris’s political strength were repeated often by more than a dozen Democratic leaders in key states interviewed for this story, some speaking on the condition of anonymity to convey candid thoughts. Harris’s tenure has been underwhelming, they said, marked by struggles as a communicator and at times near-invisibility, leaving many rank-and-file Democrats unpersuaded that she has the force, charisma and skill to mount a winning presidential campaign.

Struggles as a communicator? You mean her inability to get through a sentence without cackling?

Business Insider reported back in October 2021 that Pete Buttigieg donors were chattering about prodding him to run against Kamala Harris in 2024 if Biden were to back out.

That’s likely why we’ve seen as little of her as we have.

It looks to us like the mainstream media is prodding Biden to get out of the way and let someone else like Gavin Newsom run in 2024.
