As Twitchy reported last week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told an audience in the Bronx that she was advocating for a “VA for All” system of health care in the United States. “If it ain’t broke,” she said of the VA system, “don’t fix it.”
Video of Ocasio-Cortez speaking that line is making the rounds Monday:

We know she’s new here, but there’s been quite a push to fix the broken VA system for at least five years now, with resignations coming after CBS News obtained a letter showing a VA worker instructing staff to “game the schedule” to make veterans’ waits for care seem shorter. Sen. John McCain said people should go to jail after it was learned clerks scheduling medical appointments for veterans were “cooking the books” to hide the fact that some vets had to wait weeks, if not months, for appointments.
Heck, even President Mic Drop was said by an aide to be “madder than hell” about the ongoing scandal surrounding the office of Veterans Affairs.
So no, the VA does not provide the highest quality of care to veterans, and yes, it needs to be fixed. Meghan McCain took up where her father left off.
Veterans have literally died waiting to get health care treatment from the VA….died! https://t.co/SRTvpfAqQt

Or contracted Legionnaires Disease as they did here in Pittsburgh at the Veterans Affairs hospital (where they by the way failed to warn the other patients they had an outbreak).

Illinois had the same problem.

Don’t forget about the Augusta, GA VA using dirty endoscopes and exposing veterans to HIV and hepatitis.

I worked in medical sales for decades. Unfortunately the VA hospitals were almost always the worst facilities in every city that I worked in. In my opinion, the government doesn’t do healthcare well.

There may be some VA Health Care Centers that are providing adequate care for veterans. However, my experience in eastern North Carolina has been awful. Not only is it extremely difficult to navigate the VA but the wait times are horrible. It's a joke.

She's obviously never had to deal with the VA when trying to get care for a loved one. I have. It SUCKS! If that's the highest quality of heathcare then we have even bigger problems in this country than I thought. She needs to educate herself on this topic @AOC

Agreed, it is broke and needs fixed. Clearly she hasn't reviewed some of the lengths of the waiting times for Vets.

Not that my situation compares, but my hearing is shot from my time on a submarine. I was turned down for coverage because I make too much money but they said I could get hearing aids through the VA. After that I got the run around for so long, I finally just bought them myself.

Every veteran should be demanding her removal.. she is dangerous, stupid and immature. She will end up killing our Veterans by ignoring the poor quality of healthcare they receive.

I pay for insurance out of my pocket, so that I don't have to go to the VA…
…I'm fortunate I can afford it

Do the 2020 candidates still want to eliminate private health insurance entirely, or have they walked back on that a bit?
The VA system is so pitiful. Where has she been? There has been some small changes but not nearly enough. The VA is a good example of socialized medicine and it is not good. The gov should NOT run health care.

Yet the VA is one of the most broken programs. It needs a major overhaul to get our vets the care they need/deserve. She is either hiding that fact or is just ignorant of the truth.

22 suicides a day.
MONTHS for basic care.
Homelessness is rampant. The VA is quite broken.
Our Vets deserve better.

Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — nationalize it.
