The New York Times lauds Joy Reid as a 'heroine of the resistance'

It looks like The New York Times might be trying to win back former subscribers like Debra Messing who bailed when the paper dared to publish a profile of Ben Shapiro. The paper’s gotten a lot of flak from subscribers tired of hearing from Trump voters, but it might be setting things right this weekend with a lengthy profile of MSNBC’s Joy Reid, a heroine of The Resistance.

The daughter of immigrants, who spars fiercely with supporters of President Trump … and tweets out misinformation, like, all the time? Like when she blamed the GOP tax cuts for that Amtrak derailment in December? Or when she blamed U.S. Pacific Command for that false missile alarm in Hawaii?

Or that time last month when she shamelessly smeared National Review’s David French, falsely tweeting that he’d written a piece in favor of nuclear war, arguing, “Don’t worry, it will only kill Democrats and minorities.”

Why does any media outlet take this woman seriously as a journalist?

To the interviewer’s credit, she did bring up Reid’s slander of David French:

Still she conceded that she shares a characteristic with the president: Some people criticize her for being too reactive on Twitter. She laughed when asked about it. “I probably tweet too much and tweet my sort of reactions to things sometimes too quickly,” she said. “And MSNBC agrees.”

And the writer also brought up those old homophobic blog posts of Reid’s gay-baiting Charlie Crist: “Miss Charlie, Miss Charlie. Stop pretending, brother. It’s okay that you don’t go for the ladies,” she wrote. (“The irony is that I actually really like Charlie Crist,” she explains.)

But sure, go with the heroine daughter of (legal) immigrants angle.
