This editor writes a lot about teachers, who seem to think TikTok is a confessional where they can be completely open with how they “queer” their classrooms, tell their students to call them “mom,” and brag about how their classrooms have no American flags, only pride flags. One thing that seems to be consistent is that parents are the enemy and should be assumed to be “cisnormative”; that is, believing that having your gender match your genitals is “normal.” That’s why they say things like “I’m your mom now” and “I’m your parents now,” and f**k them if they don’t accept you for who you are. School is a safe space where kids can raid the “transition closet” and change into clothes that reflect their gender identity.
California State Sen. Scott Wiener is upset that a “DeSantis-style bill” has come up that would require schools to let students’ parents know before they try to transition them. Again, parents are the bad guys and will likely beat their trans kid who wasn’t ready to come out to them.
A DeSantis-style bill was just introduced in CA to require teachers/counselors to inform parents if a kid id’s as a gender not on birth certificate.
Even if the kid isn’t ready to come out to their parents. Even if ratting the kid out risks violence at home.
Nope, not in CA.

are you a parent, Scott? not sure you're understanding the importance of being aware of what's happening in your child's classroom. its critical. dilute a parent's right to know and you drive them out of the public school system. oh and "ratting out" is juvenile.

And the “are you a parent” line is pretty dismissive, Erica. I understand very well the ramifications of a teacher being forced to tell parents about a kid’s sexual orientation or gender identity before the kid is ready. It’s harmful, which is why it’s being pushed by the right.

Narrator: Wierer is not a parent, although his legislation is pretty laser-focused on kids, sex, and age of consent.
What other secrets do you want kids to keep from their parents, Scott?
— Jeremy Redfern (@JeremyRedfernFL) March 13, 2023
You like keeping secrets from parents, don’t you.
— Ryan Petty (@rpetty) March 13, 2023
They are the parent’s kids. They are not the teacher’s kids.

Senator @Scott_Wiener I encourage you to read the bill and my thread. My bill is aimed at supporting trans minors, not hurting them. The notification requirement is only triggered when a minor is already publicly identifying by a different gender at school. https://t.co/QH8Yi1OoBe

I just informed your parents of this RATIO

The default cannot be assuming the parents are a problem.

I'm expecting your next tweet to be, "Don't tell your parents, you don't need them. Come tell me, I will be your family."
— Brad (@bradgrow) March 13, 2023
Yep.
Tell me you're a predator trying to circumvent parents without telling me you're a predator trying to circumvent parents.

Reasonable medical/clinical professionals, teachers, and parents understand how misguided you are on this.
— David Zailer (@davidzailer) March 13, 2023
Yes, absolutely in California. Social transition is not a neutral psychological intervention and should not be performed by teachers.

Adults outside the immediate family keeping secrets with children is very normal and very popular 👌🏼

They don't make ratios large enough for things like this.

I'm a teacher. I would NEVER keep this information secret from parents. It's completely unethical.

Most of the time it’s the kid who rejects the parents. Parents 100% have the right to know. Schools must not groom and keep secrets.
— Artsongfan (@artsongfan) March 13, 2023
Teachers have no right to keep secrets from legal guardians. At least you should have parents sign an agreement to enroll children so they are aware the school can and will keep secrets from families and make medical decisions for children without parents knowledge or permission.

Parents are not the enemy.

You’re not a parent so you can sit this one out
— Coco 🇺🇸 (@CoClarified) March 13, 2023
It’s always the same — try to drive a wedge between children and their parents so you can step in and be the surrogate parent.
