President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, held a Pride Month event at the White House in June, at which he issued an executive order promoting gender-affirming surgery. House Democrats also introduced a Transgender Bill of Rights to expand access to gender-affirming care. The Biden administration is all-in on gender-affirming care, but Florida is not. As we reported, Florida Department of Health press secretary Jeremy Redfern persisted in asking a reporter to explain exactly what she meant by “gender-affirming care.” And Gov. Ron DeSantis himself isn’t mincing words:

“Affirming” to me means accepting kids as they are, assuring them that there’s nothing wrong with their body. True affirmation means helping them accept their body as they grow up, through therapy & support, as with teens who have eating disorders or body dysmorphia generally.

But we’ve been led to believe by then-press secretary Jen Psaki and by GLAD and Wired that gender-affirming care saves lives; all of these minors are bound to commit suicide if they don’t get the gender-affirming care they need ASAP, whether it be hormones or puberty blockers or surgery.
