As Twitchy reported, CNN’s Chris Cillizza is in awe of TIME magazine’s “powerful” cover that the magazine stands by even though its implied premise — the crying little girl was separated from her family thanks to Trump — was debunked by her father and the border patrol.
But hey, it was a heart-tugging image, just like the one of kids in cages that went viral and enflamed national outrage — even though the photo was taken in 2014 under the Obama administration.
Kyle Becker, writer and producer at LifeZette, has posted a lengthy but comprehensive thread that we think sums up this week’s hysteria over illegal immigration and family separation. Have a look:
The US media were completely exposed this week for using false images, some of them from the Obama administration, to manipulate the public. The @Time magazine cover is an instant classic piece of propaganda. (1/20) pic.twitter.com/bOg1DdI5kT

The image of a crying child was plastered on the cover of @Time facing President Trump, along with a title that said, "Welcome to America." (2/20)
— Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) June 23, 2018
The father of the child revealed that she was taken without his permission. Her mother carted her to America in dark of night. Time said that she was "carried away screaming by US Border Patrol agents." The child was not separated from her mother at all, in fact. (3/20)

@Time retracted the claim she was separated from her mother, but stood by its story. The magazine had accomplished its goal of stirring outrage about border patrol agents and President Trump. Its agenda trumped the facts. (4/20)

A 'viral' political cartoon from artist Justin Teodoro showed a humanized statue of liberty holding the hand of a small child. It is social commentary on America's heartwrenching experience of watching small children separated from parents and adults. (5/20) pic.twitter.com/Af72ripWs2

The statue of liberty in this cartoon remarks upon the jacket worn by Melania Trump, who made headlines with an ironic jacket that bitingly said, "I Really Don't Care, Do U?' (6/20) pic.twitter.com/JWtB1h57S9

Melania Trump's jacket was a jab at media outlets that routinely demonize and dehumanize her. Teen Vogue literally called her 'the devil.' Bill Maher joked her jacket should say, "That's Mrs. Hitler to You.' (7/20) pic.twitter.com/kmLA30n7UB

She made her point. These are the same outlets that Americans are taking cues from on the meaning of 'sympathy.'While we are on the issue of sympathy for children, many parents of these migrant children send them alone to the United States or with human traffickers. An estimated 7,500 people have died trying to cross the border in the last 17 years. It is a dangerous and often deadly journey. The parents who send their kids alone to America separate themselves from their children. (9/20) pic.twitter.com/VnchZFyJE5

At least 70,000 kids a year, by one estimate. That is reckless and heartless child separation; not housing, feeding and clothing these poor children, whose parents chose to break the law. (10/20) pic.twitter.com/dbWDCCtofk

Misguided policies are fueling child migration, putting them at risk of being captured by the drug cartels, or abused by human traffickers. (11/20) pic.twitter.com/NSONeM0Kgb

Laura Wilkerson lost her 18-year-old son Josh who was tortured & beaten to death by illegal immigrant. She told Trump, “We weren’t lucky enough to be separated for 5 or 10 days. We’re separated permanently. Any time we want to visit our son, we go to visit our cemetery." (12/20) pic.twitter.com/PNuihJ6WEV

This is the ultimate separation of a child from his parent. The statue of liberty is not is an invitation to every human being on the planet to enter however he or she so chooses. (13/20) pic.twitter.com/LxLAQpruaN

It stands as a beacon of hope for people around the world. If America does not protect its freedom, it will be lost as a sanctuary from oppression and liberation. Liberty is the reason people flee to America. (14/20)
— Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) June 23, 2018
Illegal immigration is an assault on the citizens' right to preserve their own political community and to defend their own rights. The Democratic Party's support of open borders is an attempt to dilute support for constitutionally limited government. (15/20)
— Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) June 23, 2018
It is also a cynical ploy to foster dependency on the entitlement state and to broaden the base of its own political support. This is not a policy of compassion; it is one of cold, calculated self-interest. (16/20)
— Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) June 23, 2018
The Democratic Party and its media associates need to mask this selfish calculation. They need to feign compassion. They need images of children suffering in detention centers. Even if those images were taken under Obama, who did nothing but worsen the situation. (17/20) pic.twitter.com/ro0dUeoSUX

When the Republican Party sought legislation to alleviate the border crisis, the Democratic Party leadership shut them down. It's not about the children. It's about the political goal the children can be exploited to promote: Open borders. (18/20) pic.twitter.com/Mk9da0RQeO
— Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) June 23, 2018
It's also why President Trump's executive order to keep families together while in detention – restoring the status quo under Obama – was greeted with such hostility by Democrats and the media. He'd called their bluff. How dare he! (19/20) pic.twitter.com/0Mu07t7plS

Yes, we should absolutely care about every child. We also need to care about who comes into the country.
If every child deserves freedom and opportunity, we must cherish and protect the country so there is an America to flee to. (20/20) pic.twitter.com/tKqsNX4OUg

They've been exposed day after day since the 2016 election. Then they show up the next day without any shame or embarrassment and do it all over again. They're mental. For no rational reason they're literally at war and the right is their declared enemy.
