'Show me the man, and I'll show you the crime.'
This was the motto of Lavrentiy Beria, who served as Stalin's deputy premier from 1941 until 1953. It pops up now and then as a warning of the power of the state: if they don't like you, they'll figure out a how to make you guilty of a crime.
Such is the way with Democrats and Donald Trump. The former are desperate for anything -- anything -- to take him down. Every time some new charge or accusation pops up the Left cheers that the walls are finally closing in and they've got the mean Bad Orange Man this time.
But even after Trump was found guilty of asinine felony charges, it really didn't damage him. Yeah, the Left has been able to scream 'CONVICTED FELON!' but his poll numbers and fundraising didn't take a hit. Why? Well, most people knew the prosecution was purely political. If Trump had a (D) after his name, he wouldn't have been in that Manhattan courtroom in the first place.
Yet the Left never seems to learn, and the Senate Democrats are going to try to nab Trump on some charge again:
Congressional Democrats demand Trump provide evidence he didn't take a $10 million bribe from Egypt https://t.co/3TUD9NlDJo

House Democrats are asking former President Donald Trump to prove he never received money from the Egyptian government after The Washington Post reported a $10 million withdrawal from the country’s state-run bank right before Trump took office in 2017.
In a letter released Tuesday, Reps. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., requested that Trump immediately provide evidence "that you never, directly or indirectly, politically or personally, received any fund from the Egyptian president or government,” The Post reported.
The lawmakers, who serve on the House Oversight Committee, requested that Trump provide any information about a $10 million sum put into his campaign in late 2016. As they are a minority in the House, Democrats do not have the authority to issue subpoenas.
“Surely you would agree that the American people deserve to know whether a former president, and a current candidate for president, took an illegal campaign contribution from a brutal foreign dictator,” the letter reads.
This feels a lot like a fishing expedition. Get his financial records and see if you can find some abnormality, irregularity, anything to turn over to an ambitious Left-wing prosecutor who can make headlines by prosecuting Trump before the election.
How do you prove a negative?
Shouldn't the Senate Democrats put forth evidence that indicates Trump took the bribe?
Do the concepts of the presumption of innocence and due process not mean anything?
I guess they don't. These are the same Democrats who -- as I wrote about earlier today -- are fine with using a weaponized government against people like Tulsi Gabbard. They turn a blind eye to BLM/Antifa riots but crack down on grandmothers outside abortion clinics.
So it's not really a surprise that they demande evidence of something that didn't happen.
We all know what the game is, right?
The absence of proof will -- magically -- be proof that Trump is guilty of accepting a bribe from Egypt.
I demand these Democrats prove they never took a bribe from China. https://t.co/wPE9MqlISi

This is hard to do, as several high profile Democrats (or their staffers) have been linked to China. Most recently, Linda Sun, a former staffer of New York Governor Kathy Hochul, was arrested for being a Chinese agent who -- among other things -- blocked meetings with Taiwan.
The GOP should be out there demanding Hochul provide evidence she didn't know Sun was a spy for the ChiComs. If they knew how to play the political game.
They, unfortunately, don't. Eric Swalwell had an affair with a Chinese spy, and he's not only still in the House but a member of several important committees.
But back to the topic at hand.
The Democrats do this because thy know they'll get away with it. Make these charges against Trump, provide no evidence for them, demand he prove his innocence, and get support and cover from a compliant media.
Expect 'bribes from Egypt' to pop up in Kamala Harris' campaign between now and November. The memo has surely gone out.
Trump, for his part, would do well to not give these empty demands any oxygen. Ignore them and focus on the economy, Kamala's radical record, and his policies to turn the ship around.
For the rest of us, we should see this latest demand from the Democrats for what it is: the desperate political ploy of a party that's on track to lose in November.
