It always struck me as wildly contradictory for President Biden to drop out of the presidential race while continuing to run the country, especially in light of his obvious cognitive issues. I am skeptical he had COVID, while he was holed up in Delaware and went unseen in public from July 17 until yesterday.
Yesterday, KJP said Biden felt he could run for another four years and dropping out had nothing to do with his health.
Which is something we all knew.
The media just wanted to hide it from us.

Karine Jean-Pierre just said that the President continues to believe that he can serve four more years and did not withdraw due to his diminished state. "It has nothing to do with his health." ...

As I posted on X the other day, the media have one job right now: beat Donald Trump. It is their one obsession, and facts be damned.
This is why they're scrubbing references to Kamala Harris being the 'border czar' and erasing documentation that she was the most left-wing Senator. They want to win, and they'll destroy their profession and what's left of their reputations to do it.
In his resignation letter, Biden wrote:
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
These statements by KJP throw this particular paragraph into a different light.
Prior to dropping out, and even before the disastrous June 27 debate, Biden was in a bad place for an incumbent, poll-wise. He's governed over record-high inflation, wars in Europe and the Middle East, as well as tensions with China and Iran.
Polls -- up until Biden dropped out -- had the race neck and neck. Biden also faced increasing unfavorability in surveys, sitting well below at 40% approval rating.
Voters aren't going to the polls in November about abortion, or trans rights. They're going to the polls because -- under Trump -- they could afford gas and groceries and their mortgages.
That is the deciding factor in this election, and polls often demonstrated that. In a recent YouGov poll, 64% of respondents listed the economy and inflation as voters' top concerns.
And it hasn't changed since June 27.
But the self-proclaimed 'defenders of democracy' saw the writing on the wall, I think. They realized Biden's campaign was doomed, even if Biden himself doesn't realize it.
Which speaks volumes about how much they care for democracy. Up to and including the president.
In a word, they don't.
If they did, Biden would have declined to run for a second term and let the primary voters pick their next candidate (my money says it would not have been Kamala). Instead, he stayed in the race through almost the entire month of July, and some Democrats -- behind closed doors -- decided to make Kamala Harris the nominee (but Biden won't resign and let her be the president for the remainder of this term).
And if they didn't think he'd lose to Trump, they'd have kept him in despite his cognitive decline. So the government could be run by a 'team' of people we didn't elect, putting our national security at risk.
So do not let them lecture you on democracy.
Do not let Kamala post how 'people have the power' this election, when she received not one primary vote this year and not one delegate in 2020.
Their entire focus is on beating Donald Trump and -- from the media to the Democratic Party -- they will eschew every norm, every effort to report fact, every opportunity to defend democracy. Because, ultimately, they don't want you to have a vote. Not for the Democratic Party nominee and not for Donald Trump.
They want an oligarchy, wherein they rule without question or challenge.
It's why Biden dropped out, and it's why Kamala was installed as the nominee.
Don't let them forget it, and don't let them get away with it.
