Glenn Greenwald, who’s perhaps best known for his reporting on the classified documents leaked by Edward Snowden, has weighed in on the campaign to #ReleaseTheMemo.
As Twitchy reported, the classified report compiled by the House Intelligence Committee allegedly reveals FISA abuses and has been described by Republican congressmen who’ve read it as “sickening” and “absolutely shocking.” Democrats, on the other hand, have been mostly quiet, other than Rep. Adam “Transparency” Schiff, who tweeted that the memo should, of course, stay classified.
So what’s Greenwald’s take? It seems he’s pretty anxious for someone to declassify the memo, and lays it on President Trump to declassify it and get it out there for the public.
Conservatives pushing hard for House Intel to publicly release four-page summary of Nunes investigation over what they say is FISA abuse during 2016 elections; Dems say Nunes unilaterally put together a memo that leaves out key details and exaggerates findings

These same conservatives are claiming that the underlying source material corroborates the claims in the memo. There are countless ways for them to get that to the public if any of this were true. Until one of them does it, nobody should take this seriously. Let's see the docs. https://t.co/NvM9loyTKM

Yeah, there are countless ways to make classified materials public. One of those Republicans could, for example, just publish them on his website and then claim that a bad cold had interfered with his mental faculties.

If you're someone who is madly tweeting #ReleaseTheMemo because you remotely believe the claims being made about it, you should be furious at Trump for not declassifying these documents, and even angrier at the GOP members for not using their immunity to reveal it on the floor.
— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) January 19, 2018
“Madly tweeting,” huh? So it’s Trump at whom you should be furious? Besides having the #SchumerShutdown to deal with, perhaps there are other reasons Trump hasn’t sprung into action.
You obviously have no clue as to what has been going on. https://t.co/YQlJG6EfsD

If POTUS declassified the Nunes memo, the Leftist Media would have a MELTDOWN falsely claiming "Trump's trying to undermine Mueller"!
Best it be released because fellow Congressional members DEMAND its exposure.
ENOUGH with the leaks Glenn.
Do things correctly. https://t.co/NbJ7MY7HHU— The Coup Failed (@Trumpwatcher) January 20, 2018
Yep.
I have to disagree with you on this Glenn. I don't think it is inappropriate for them to TRY FIRST to have it released FORMALLY. Let's see how the Democrats respond (I can predict they will oppose #Transparency). I am certain at that point it will be leaked or just released. https://t.co/5Ax8fHG4fc

Your wrong. This #Deplorable is giving the #progressive #liberals the opportunity to show the American public that they are capable and do what is correct . https://t.co/r3ZFV5Dzjs

Hey NITWIT you don’t think the democrats would claim Trump is interfering with the house intel committee! It’s called separation of powers, @ggreenwald! You’re a halfwit https://t.co/6emfHMeWCs

If @POTUS declassified this, all we would hear from MSM and libs is how he was interfering with the investigation or he was selectively releasing docs, etc. congress needs to do it. https://t.co/mMpa21JJac

If you heard the entire story you would understand there are steps that legally should be taken. It needs to go to the DOJ then to the President. Jr was making a point of how the GOP are following the rules instead of like Crazy Fiendstein just releasing it! https://t.co/dutLpszinW

Not at all…this has 2 b done right. Cannot risk bad optics. If trump forcefully releases them or an R reads it out in the house, it will b seen as political. & if it leaks via Wiki or anywhere else, the’ll yell: “wiki is a Russian arm” & @ChrisCuomo will say we can’t read them. https://t.co/BvgzbM8kvx

Good point, @ggreenwald. Reading it on the floor enjoys immunity. Removing it from a secure facility, however, would enjoy the same punishment that we hope will be applied to Hillary Clinton at the end of the day. https://t.co/G08jtHxoN7
— Thomas (@tauzinger) January 20, 2018
Right now, House members have to read the classified memo in a secure facility … so unless someone pulls a “Sloppy” Sandy Berger and stuffs a copy of the memo down his socks, it’s not going to be read on the House floor.
B.S.
The Reps no doubt want, and in fact are working towards a #LawfulWaiver of classification. Also no doubt, the subsequent REQUIRED Executive review will grant the waiver, so that all Americans can learn these findings.
At this moment the greater battle is #SchumerShutdown https://t.co/PO90mRa4Ui

No reason to be so anxious over a hashtag campaign … give it time.
A little nervous are you, Glenn?
No need for Trump to de-classify since the House has every intention of releasing the results of this year long investigation. https://t.co/JhDoSfRc2m— Me and Him (@nanluvsmatt) January 20, 2018
.@ggreenwald, I believe the now dozens of GOP House members who have read it and viewed the supporting documentation.
Had it been immediately released on the House floor, the MSM would have buried it.
Now awareness has been built. It will receive max exposure once released. https://t.co/1TagpD3NyS

Update:
Now Glenn Greenwald and Jon Schwarz have written a piece called — get this – “Republicans Have Four Easy Ways to #ReleaseTheMemo — and the Evidence for It. Not Doing So Will Prove Them to Be Shameless Frauds.” (Shocker: The fourth easy way to release the memo is to leak it to the press.)
If the FISA memo and underlying evidence prove pervasive criminality and abuse of power, then why isn't the GOP letting the public see it? https://t.co/lFzXg57kdL #ReleaseTheMemo
— The Intercept (@theintercept) January 20, 2018
Why isn’t the GOP letting the public see it? (Spoiler: They are, after proper channels are followed.)
Because the GOP doesn't own it. The Committee does. And as of today, the Democrats on the Committee have voted to NOT release THEIR property. So now, a process has begun to TAKE that memo from the Committee and release it. The House has rules it MUST follow. -VJ
