Last week, the tragic story of a Nebraska teen who was sentenced to 90 days in jail for aborting her baby had pro-choice advocates up in arms. See? We told you that when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, women would be criminalized for getting abortions! We told you forced-birth sickos!
What the pro-choice advocates weren't telling us, however, was why Celeste Burgess was sentenced to 90 days in jail. Her mother had procured for her abortifacients that is not supposed to be used after the fetus is 10 weeks old. Burgess was 30 weeks pregnant when she took it. She also gave birth to the baby in a bathtub, and she and her mother subsequently buried the body several times as well as attempted to burn the remains. Burgess' crime was illegally disposing of human remains. The incident also occurred before the Dobbs ruling, so, contra pro-aborts, her actions were not a consequence of the Supreme Court's decision.
The New York Times was among the outlets that covered the story when it blew up last week, and, predictably, they weren't forthright with the details. But they still did a better job than TIME:
Celeste Burgess, 19, was a minor when she was pregnant and had an abortion.

Last week, a Nebraska judge sentenced Burgess to 90 days in jail.
Her mother was also charged; prosecutors accused Jessica Burgess, 42, of buying abortion pills online https://t.co/ObkbMorN63
What the hell?!
Um ... don't you employ journalists anymore?https://t.co/29VQvmQfuC

Please address the actual nature of this charge @CommunityNotes

At least the New York Times' tweet acknowledged that Burgess had buried the remains of her dead baby. TIME clearly couldn't even be bothered to do the bare minimum.

Here's how the article starts:
Nebraska’s criminal sentencing of a woman who used abortion pills to end her pregnancy has highlighted how prosecutors can use digital data and charge friends and family members in criminal cases related to abortion, taking on new resonance after the fall of Roe v. Wade.
Celeste Burgess, 19, was a minor when she was pregnant and had an abortion. Earlier this year, she pleaded guilty to illegally concealing or abandoning a dead body. Last week, a Nebraska judge sentenced Burgess to 90 days in jail. Her mother was also charged; prosecutors accused Jessica Burgess, 42, of buying abortion pills online. She faces up to five years in prison and pleaded guilty to providing an illegal abortion, false reporting, and tampering with human skeletal remains.
"Tampering." This wasn't "tampering," TIME. It was burying and burning the body of a 30-week-old fetus that had been aborted.
The Burgess case began before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year and when Nebraska had a 20-week abortion ban in effect. Nebraska has since enacted a 12-week abortion ban. But legal experts think the Burgess case has gained new relevance in the post-Roe era, suggesting the case may be a harbinger of an increase in criminal prosecution of abortion-related cases. “I certainly think we’re going to see a lot more abortion prosecutions. I don't think this case was going to be inspirational, but I do think it’s likely to embody trends we’re going to see elsewhere,” says Mary Ruth Ziegler, a law professor at UC Davis.
Ah, yes. Let's make the case of a conspiracy between a daughter and her mother to murder the daughter's unborn baby and dispose of the body through sadistic means about the threat to pregnant women seeking abortions.
This is insane. Truly.
Another article that tries to suggest this case had to do with overturning Roe when really it’s about the mother and daughter conspiring to abort a viable baby 7.5 months into a pregnancy and then burn the body to cover it up…

Actions that were illegal before Dobbs. https://t.co/Nr5q1F1lKQ
And, if you can believe it, TIME's article actually gets even worse:
You have to read through 22 paragraphs before they add in this “Caveats” section that completely undermines every point they tried to use this case to make before then… pic.twitter.com/1AOAvUeCkq

"Caveats." The only caveat here should be about turning to TIME magazine for honest coverage of the abortion issue.
I cannot believe how many people are trying to spin murder and concealing a body into a political talking point. Ted Lieu even framed this as being a result of overturning Roe.

Yes he did. And it was despicable and disgusting when he did it, too.
Lying liars, the lot of them.
Where are all the "misinformation" reporters on this one? It's almost like they are partisan shills.
— Saladin Khan (@MC_Sadist) July 27, 2023
Because that's exactly what they are. Partisan shills whose love for abortion "rights" far outweighs their respect for life and for the truth.
I genuinely don’t know how anybody can read US mainstream media, which is just outright lies and propaganda at this point without a cautious eye. You have to jump through hoops to filter truth from falsehood & stop yourself from being indoctrinated. @SomiEkhasomhi

My goodness. https://t.co/I94FyEC2yh
The dishonesty and blatant liberal bias is so prevalent in much of the legacy media. It’s stomach turning.
