Some Chicagoans are very upset that Lori Lightfoot will be housing migrants in their neighborhood

Yesterday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said that he’d gotten word that Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis is planning to send illegal immigrants to cities like New York and Chicago

Adams sounded pissed, to say the least. How dare illegal immigrants be sent to sanctuary cities where they’ve been told they’ll be welcomed and protected from immigration law enforcement?

And if Adams is angry, you can imagine how Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot feels right now. Especially since she’s got to deal with angry constituents who don’t want to live in some kind of sanctuary neighborhood.

From CBS’ Chicago affiliate late last month:

Last month, [reporter Lauren] Victory got the chance to ask Mayor Lori Lightfoot about plans for the school. She did not get a straight answer.

“We’re about making sure we can do the work and prepare for every contingency, so we looked at a number of different locations all over the city – and obviously, vacant schools were on the list,” Mayor Lightfoot said in November.

But at the meeting Wednesday night, officials said indeed the plan is for this specific vacant school to become a migrant shelter.

“Our ideal target start date there is January 6,” [Office of Emergency Management and Communications manager Matthew] Doughtie said.

Less than a week and a half from now, the plan is to move in nearly 150 migrants – likely single men and women.

Interesting.

Concerned about safety? Why, whatever for? Besides, this is what Chicagoans wanted when they elected Lori Lightfoot.

Who could’ve seen that development coming?

Yeah, sorry, but it’s difficult to be sympathetic to the Woodlawn residents’ plight. You get what you pay for — and you pay for what you get.

Meanwhile:

What about them? Let’s keep things in perspective, OK?

When in doubt, always consult the intersectional scorecard.
