NEA has 'put together some helpful advice' on pronouns, which, when used correctly, 'can help reduce suicide rates' of students

Gee. You know, it’s a real mystery as to why more and more parents are coming to outright loathe public sector teachers’ unions.

I’m being facetious, of course. It’s not actually a mystery. Teachers’ unions reputations have been going downhill for a while now, but the pace really accelerated when the COVID pandemic hit thanks to their very obvious campaigns to keep children out of school, thereby inflicting untold long-term damage on a generation of kids under the guise of caring about kids.

But it’s not just the COVID crap that’s put teachers’ unions near the tops of people’s sh*t lists. It’s stuff like this from the National Education Association:

More:

According to NEA’s guide to pronouns, social interactions where a person is addressed by the name and pronouns that are consistent with their gender identity are critical to the health and well-being of transgender and gender-diverse people.

Addressing someone by the wrong name or misgendering them, by using incorrect pronouns, can feel disrespectful, harmful, and even threatening to a gender-diverse person. Misgendering results in marginalization and communicates that a person’s identity is not seen as important.

When correct names and pronouns are used, statistics show that suicide rates drop, while trust and feelings of belonging increase. “It’s also a sign of respect,” said Saul Ramos, in June, during an NEA-hosted webinar on pronouns. Ramos is a paraprofessional in Massachusetts and a member of NEA’s Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee.

The fact that the NEA actually has a Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee should tell you a lot about where the NEA’s priorities are. They’re definitely not with education.

Of course they don’t.

What the hell would the NEA know about respect? Clearly they know nothing about self-respect, because no self-respecting person or people would encourage the use of words like “ze,” “zim,” or “zerself.” The NEA is an embarrassment, but they’re a dangerous embarrassment. They’re poisoning the public discourse as well as the public school system. Kids and their parents deserve so much better.

Exactly.
