Kamala Harris recently found herself in hot bong water after claiming she smoked pot in college while enjoying the dulcet tones of Snoop and Tupac, despite the fact that she graduated from college several years before either rapper released any music. Either she lied about lighting up in college or she admitted to inhaling while prosecuting marijuana users as Alameda Deputy DA.
It looks pretty bad for Kamala — which is why she’s so lucky to have a Real Journalist like the Toronto Star’s Washington correspondent Daniel Dale in her corner. Detective Dale has been doing some digging, and he’s pretty sure that his findings will prove that Kamala Harris is actually as awesome as she says she is:
Right-wing outlets have been gleeful today about Harris supposedly lying about…what music she listened to while smoking weed as a young woman. But as @AsteadWesley notes, these outlets omitted a key part of the exchange. It's not at all clear she was dishonest. (Weird thread!)

Actually, it’s pretty clear she was:
Fox (left) and the Daily Wire (right) had Harris being asked what music she listened to when high, and her volunteering, "Definitely Snoop, Tupac for sure." But…she was actually asked a separate question, unmentioned by Fox and the Wire, by the person who volunteered "Snoop." pic.twitter.com/WfMd5MUCzB

Here is the full exchange. It seems extremely possible, probably likely, that Harris was intending to respond to DJ Envy's general question, "What do you listen to?" After asking that question, DJ Envy volunteered the "Snoop." pic.twitter.com/Qmd6KyWNj1

… and Harris volunteered “Tupac, for sure.” Harris volunteered that; not “right-wing outlets.”
Here is the video: https://t.co/O1oMckUBpT.
This may be kind of trivial-seeming, but it's a highly dishonest effort to paint Harris as a liar without at least giving readers the transcript they need to make the call themselves. And it led Fox's website at one point today. /end

Well, Daniel, you’ve given readers the transcript they need, and it seems pretty safe to say that Harris lied about something.
Okay, read it, heard it and it doesn't change the fact if she was smoking weed listening to Snoop and 2Pac, she was doing so as a District Attorney and putting drug offenders away.

Exactly.
The transcript of the exchange as well as the video itself show that Kamala Harris was asked about what she listened to when she smoked weed in college (1980’s) and she agreed “Snoop” & also said “Tupac”… both who didn’t debut until the 1990’s. Why defend something this dumb? https://t.co/k1NgbchTws
