People of all political stripes have come together today to mourn the loss of Anthony Bourdain, who committed suicide. But as Oliver Willis has so viciously demonstrated, there will always be some people who will use the death of a beloved figure to demonstrate their own inhumanity.
Just over a year ago, after the deadly bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, freelancing blue-check David Leavitt tweeted a disgusting joke (which he later deleted “since so many people asked”). Here’s what it said:
MULTIPLE CONFIRMED FATALITIES at Manchester Arena. The last time I listened to Ariana Grande I almost died too.
Bourdain was one of many people who rightly called him out for it:
And now that Bourdain is dead, Leavitt feels like now’s a good time to fire back:
Pretty proud of that one, aren’t you, David?
Are you taking a victory lap following a man’s suicide or am I missing something?

Sounds just like that.

Leavitt’s getting ratio’d hard:

And it couldn’t be happening to a nicer guy.
You’ve said some horrible things before. This is so ignorant. You don’t have any idea what his inner struggles were or what battles he had to deal with. This does nothing to help those battling depression.

Will never understand the need people have of proving they're garbage in public.
I mean, you really had to go back and find this tweet to dunk on a dead man?
Do you not understand how small and petty this makes you? https://t.co/4UVcrMqEQO

We concur. And it’s pretty clear that Bourdain had him pegged all along.

Tony tweeted this message at @David_Leavitt when David tweeted a heartless "joke" the night of the bombing at @ArianaGrande's concert last May.
Tony was right about you David..you are truly an awful human being. pic.twitter.com/TeC6yWgnKE

Wow, way to exactly demonstrate that Bourdain's description of you is correct.

damn he sure was right about you

You, pointing this out today, proves his point, sadly.

Even from the afterlife, Anthony Bourdain is being proven right pic.twitter.com/L5N0jygFY1

Update:
Yep, Bourdain was definitely right about Leavitt:
You don’t go to heaven when you kill yourself. It’s incredibly selfish. Don’t do it. pic.twitter.com/DHAFfSLa4y

Quit while you’re behind, David.
