N.Y. banning gas stoves in new buildings even though such bans are a right-wing conspiracy theory

New York continues to lead the way on fighting climate change and death. And at least as far as climate change is concern, their efforts seem to be working. Because at the rate people are fleeing the state, pretty much there will only be a few people left in New York to contribute to global warming.

But what will really clean New York up is giving people who don’t already live there reasons to never move there in the first place. And it looks like that’s exactly what Governor Kathy Hochul and the state legislature are trying to do.

Guys, New York is coming for the gas stoves:

More from the Washington Post:

Late Tuesday night, the New York legislature approved a $229 billion state budget that included a prohibition on gas in most new homes and other construction. It was a major victory for climate activists but is likely to face a court challenge from fossil fuel interests.

It’s not just “fossil fuel interests” who should have serious problems with this. It’s anyone who doesn’t appreciate the government controlling yet another aspect of our lives, especially when the government consists of hypocrites who think they’re above their own stupid rules. But we digress.

More:

The law effectively requires all-electric heating and cooking in new buildings shorter than seven stories by 2026, and in 2029 for taller buildings. And although it allows exemptions for manufacturing facilities, restaurants, hospitals and even carwashes, the measure does not do what some climate activists had feared: give cities and counties license to override the ban.

Opponents derided the New York bill’s passage as governmental overreach. Republican Robert Ortt, the minority leader of the New York Senate, issued a statement criticizing the law as a “first-in-the-nation, unconstitutional ban” that “will drive up utility bills and increase housing costs.”

The bill is governmental overreach. And it will both drive up utility bills and increase housing costs. So the opponents are correct.

Ah.

You can still see buses driving around with prominently displayed signs about how they run on natural gas. So yes.

Did we mention that the Ban Gas Stoves Brigade is full of hypocrites?

Here’s what Gov. Kathy Hochul means: “This is how you transition. Not me. Because, unlike you plebs, I’m allowed to use gas stoves.

Meanwhile, we were reliably assured that nobody was trying to ban gas stoves and that we were stupid for believing such a stupid and obviously false right-wing narrative.

Welp.

That seems to happen kind of a lot, doesn’t it?

Feel free to get the ball rolling on that, “Morning Joe.”

We’d also like a pre-emptive apology from all the people cheerleading the move to electric stoves as some kind of scientific and moral victory when they’re not acknowledging where the electricity fueling those stoves is going to be coming from.

In any event:

And getting the hell out of New York could be the smartest move ever.
