The Washington Post thought it had itself a juicy little scandal when it framed three retired colonels reviewing the military’s war colleges as some shadowy plot to sneak MAGA influencers into the Pentagon and pump Pete Hegseth talking points.
We can't even make this level of stupid up.
YES, IT'S ALL A PLOT.
EXCLUSIVE: The Pentagon has secretly installed several conservative military veterans with large online followings in government roles, declining to disclose their assignments as they amplify the viewpoints of Pete Hegseth.

It's cute how Dan Lamothe uses the word BREAKING, as if this is really some important story and he's discovered some evil plot to ... we're not sure what. Make things better? The nerve.
All three colonels accused are having none of this BS:
WaPo lies again.

When Dan called me, I was driving and picked up the phone on my car's bluetooth not knowing who was calling.
I absolutely did comment, and while I cannot recall the exact phrasing of that comment, it went something like this:
"Dan, why in the name of all that… https://t.co/Xp7fcmkqrl
Post continues:
... "is holy would any rational human EVER "comment" on ANYTHING that the Washington Post asked him or her? You work for the publication that pushed the "Trump/Russia Collusion" hoax, that hid the story of Hunter's laptop, that hid the story of President Applesauce's senility, and that pushed an entirely false COVID narrative the crippled the development of millions of children and killed countless thousands who could not get medical treatment or who had adverse reactions to an experimental shot, and which routinely engages in a cavalcade of lies and half-truths to support your Democrat Party masters?"
Then I hung up on him.
I only wish I had been on an old-timey phone so I could have slammed it down with exquisite satisfaction.
Why did he not publish my comments?
I'm blocking you now Dan. I am a private citizen. Please never attempt to contact me again, in any way, shape or form.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It doesn't get much better for Dan from here on out.
You falsely accused us with a complete fabrication Dan. We owe you nothing but you and @JeffBezos certainly do owe us an apology. We will never quit. We will never stop calling for you to man up and set things right. Don’t come at us with the BS after you mix a few facts from… https://t.co/Ncijt6Oogy

Post continues:
... illegally obtained information and try to say there’s nothing wrong in your smear job. The innuendo and fabricated accusation that we were secretly hired to publish pentagon propaganda is very clear. All one has to do is look at the thousands of comments on social media that believe your lie.
This is WaPo we're talking about, folks.
Schlichter really took Lamothe and WaPo apart:
My new @Townhallcom column demonstrates how the regime media is just as bad as you thought. Only lamer.
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) August 31, 2026
"How can you trust regime media reporters to report anything right when they can’t even spell my name correctly? There’s a second H in Schlichter, guys. By the time you read…
Post continues:
... you read this compendium of crap, expect a stealth edit to have fixed the egregious error. Sure, my name is a little tough for those not fluent in Deutsch, but it’s out there all over the place. After all, according to the Washington Post, I’m an important conservative influencer worthy of an exposé because I decided to continue to serve my country after retiring following 27 years in uniform. Of course, their spelling error isn’t their only error; it’s emblematic of their shoddy work in general. In fact, it’s fair to say the entire ridiculous article is complete baloney. If I had any residual trust for the regime media — and I don’t — this would’ve torpedoed it. It’s a hit piece, but it hits like a girl."The Washington Post Embarrasses Itself Trying to Embarrass Me
But wait, there's more! With Schlichter, there is always more, and it's often not good for the person on the receiving end.
I made it crystal clear in my column that the false impression generated by your article that we were somehow employed to push Pentagon narratives was false. You had no evidence to support that innuendo in your article because there is no evidence because it never happened. You… https://t.co/2SRMopxhuH

The colonels are at the very least owed an apology...
