As Twitchy readers know, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez really stuck her socialist foot in her mouth by comparing Ben Shapiro’s offer to a debate (with a sizable donation) to a catcall. Seriously, her handlers need to get their poop in a group.
And while many people are justifiably giving Ocasio-Cortez a hard time for playing the ‘I’m just a girl’ card, some on the Left are jumping out in front of the Democratic Socialist sweetheart to deflect the fire …
Like Jeet Heer.
AOC is really good at responding to bad faith right-wing rhetoric. It's something I hope other Dems can learn from. https://t.co/ASV95JT1GB

Huh? It’s bad-faith rhetoric to ask for a debate?
Fascinating.
In a free society, no one is under any obligation to debate Ben Shapiro.
— Jeet Heer (@HeerJeet) August 10, 2018
No one is saying she has to debate anyone, Jeet.
Calm yourself.
In a free society, she can respond in any way she likes. You don't get to tell a free woman how to respond to a publicity stunt.
— Jeet Heer (@HeerJeet) August 10, 2018
Publicity stunt.
If we rolled our eyes any further back in our heads we would definitely do some permanent damage.
Considering she is running for public office I don’t think asking for a debate is in some way excessive. The 10k for charity was a generous offer to boot.
— PhilThatRemains (@philthatremains) August 10, 2018
Yup.
Considering she's running for pubic office, she has better things to do than take part in a publicity stunt with a rando.

Eek. SO MUCH EEK. SERIOUS TYPO.
Make sure you don’t drop the letter ‘L’ from the word, ‘public’. Talk about a tweet that’s worse than a catcall.
Jeet. Dude.
And Ben Shapiro is hardly a ‘rando’.
Haha, I’m a rando. I’m just some dude who yells in a metal band. Shapiro is a thought leader on the right. Rando isn’t an accurate description. Furthermore, I imagine if she thought she could make a convincing case, she would.
— PhilThatRemains (@philthatremains) August 10, 2018
Bingo.
Shapiro has a rabid fan base but he's a rando in the broader culture. A politician usually debates other politicians. No reason to debate some guy just because he has cash.
— Jeet Heer (@HeerJeet) August 10, 2018
RABID FAN BASE! RAR RAR! ARGLE BARGLE!
These people.
Oh, look, Ian Millhiser has Jeet’s back …

Bad faith extremists?
Ouch, there go the eyes again … rolling rolling rolling.
The fact that you’re serious is really funny.
— Scotty Potty (@HTX_Con) August 10, 2018
After we got done rolling our eyes we did actually laugh, so fair point.
She's afraid to debate because her idea's suck.

What he said.
"Bad faith" is replacing "that's racist" as the default excuse libs use against any challenge or criticism they can't handle.
— Ben Crystal (@Bennettruth) August 10, 2018
How convenient. Become a victim and hide behind her gender.
— OH-BEHI (@OH_BEHI) August 10, 2018
For being the supposed party of empowering women they sure are quick to protect their pet socialist for playing the girl card.
Wow, horrible take.
— Max Peters (@TikiMaximus) August 10, 2018
Ahh….no. Comparing a challenge to a debate, regardless of how ridiculous the challenge might be, to sexual harassment & catcalling is the epitome of tone deaf. You’d think a “progressive woman” would understand the #timesup & #meetoo movements better than this
— JAM (@Eviljohna) August 10, 2018
So rabid.
And yet, so right.
