Full transparency, when this editor wrote about Sally Kohn a little bit ago she was totally waiting for Sally to tweet about gun control but the Gina Haspel tweet was too good NOT to cover …
This was, however, what she was waiting for:
This isn’t about caring about our children more than guns. It’s about believing truth more than lies — and understanding that we can take significant steps to protect our children AND still respect gun rights. Don’t accept the false dichotomy.
— Sally Kohn (@sallykohn) May 18, 2018
No one is pushing a false dichotomy but people promoting gun control.
We can honor the Second Amendment and still put the safety of our nation’s children FIRST.
— Sally Kohn (@sallykohn) May 18, 2018
Sure we can, with armed security at the doors of every school and allowing teachers who are comfortable and trained to carry at school.
Wow, who knew Sally was so agreeable to such things.
Improve school security. Simple.

See?
Why can't we approach public schools like we do public buildings (courthouse) or theme parks or airports or political conferences?
We can debate gun regulation, safety, legal carry etc., and that's fine. But right now we should secure schools like we do political rallies.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) May 18, 2018
Bingo.
Speaking for myself, the idea that the only way to keep my kid safe at school is for there to be armed guards and metal detectors is deeply defeatist and deeply sad.
— Sally Kohn (@sallykohn) May 18, 2018
Oh wait, guess she didn’t agree with us or the NRA.

Damn, our bad.
It sure sounded like it for a minute.
Even if that's sad (I don't know if I agree) I think it's more sad as things are.
— Ben (@BenHowe) May 18, 2018
Fair.
Yes. Of course! But as a country one would hope we could do better by our kids, rather than treating the symptoms of rampant gun violence, to instead seriously try to address the problem.
— Sally Kohn (@sallykohn) May 18, 2018
What’s doing better by our kids than protecting them?
I am not confident it can be addressed. But as with the other examples, we don't take that risk. We know an airport could be a target so we take every action to prevent anyone from exploiting that opportunity.
I see it as ensuring kids know they are well protected in all cases.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) May 18, 2018
Bingo again.
Yes, I've used airports as the example a lot. We didn't "solve" terrorism after 9/11. Certainly not. But there hasn't been another hijacking in America for a reason. That reason was security.
— Ben (@BenHowe) May 18, 2018
Man, Ben is making a lot of sense.
I've walked through a crowd of protesters at an AIPAC conference where I felt genuinely unsafe. But I knew my safety was much better inside the building where I passed through security, had a badge on and could see security.
Its an issue of minimizing risk.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) May 18, 2018
And so is Chad.
What happened to Sally?
We’re not attacking the Second Amendment. We’re putting the safety of our children FIRST.
— Sally Kohn (@sallykohn) May 18, 2018
Oh. There she is.
Sally, you said that already.
And that’s all the NRA and other legal gun owners want to do as well.
Then why do you oppose security in soft targets filled with kids everyday…?
— Adam Strange (@Till_Daddy) May 18, 2018
The shooter used a sawed off shotgun, a handgun and homemade bombs with pressure cookers Sally. We’re all ears…..

Armed security would have gone a long way today in Santa Fe.
But you know, blame the NRA and take guns from Americans … or something.
