There are a few Democratic socialists running for political office around the country, and the main goal of many of them seems simple: Pretend they no longer believe all the things they previously said not all that long ago.
Former Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong never met a traditional U.S. holiday she wasn't repulsed by, but later laughably tried to reel it back in. This was her one-eighty on the subject of Thanksgiving:
Francesca Hong WALKS BACK her 2020 tweet in which she wants to cancel Thanksgiving, telling Politico:

"I don't want to cancel it. I actually love it."

Now, Democrat nominee for Michigan Senate, Abdul El-Sayed, has made a similar pivot on football.
It started when his Republican opponent Mike Rogers merely pointed out the things El-Sayed has said in his own words, including calling football an example of toxic masculinity and comparing the sport to the transatlantic slave trade.
Rogers: He's advocating doing away with our fireworks, football, the fourth of July. He should be held to account for that. pic.twitter.com/XXNF4jBQzy

The Michigan socialist running for U.S. Senate seems to have a streak of comebacks that make him sound like he's about 12 years old, and here's another one for the list:

Since you’re too afraid to debate me, how about you “hold me accountable” on a football field instead. Tackle, no pads like we used to play when we were kids. I’d be happy to show you much I love football. https://t.co/6oQ6sunxZn

As a counter offer, Rogers could suggest that the game be played on Mackinac Island.
You’re 41 years old challenging a 63 year old to play one on one tackle football and think it’s a good move? Just weird. Again, there are no normal male Democrats. https://t.co/5ujPwKz2AR

And watching them attempting to pretend to be normal makes it even more awkward.
This is you complaining that Manifest Destiny and the "transatlantic slave trade" are "echoed in the ethos of football." pic.twitter.com/kPw95bMjzO

But he loves the game!
You'll twist your ankle and accuse Rogers of genocide.

lol… why don’t you send Corn Pop after him while you’re at it?

Corn Pop was a bad dude, man!

Bro wants to prove he can tackle a guy 20 years older than him. https://t.co/6lFCxiADhE

Abdul El-Sayed’s jaw is made of glass

His confidence is paper thin
Underneath the show tunes is a miserable and egotistical man
If Mike Rogers can draw this out, the whole world will see it at once https://t.co/KlC6poOG4N
That's becoming more obvious with each passing day.
