Earlier today the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee voted to refer Dr. Anthony Fauci for criminal contempt.

You might remember, during the hearing where Fauci took the Fifth 111 times and wouldn't even answer a question about what color tie he was wearing, one of his attorneys tried to play a little game. Paul wasn't having it.
That's the same attorney that put out a statement after his client was referred for criminal contempt.

“Today’s partisan committee vote is a crude political stunt intended to punish Dr. Fauci for exercising his constitutional rights. The Senate should reject Senator Paul’s meritless and politically-motivated contempt resolution. For years, Senator Paul has proclaimed to anyone who would listen that Dr. Fauci should be prosecuted and put in prison. Dr. Fauci has committed no crime – and Senator Paul knows it.
“Today’s resolution is a continuation of Senator Paul’s personal vendetta against Dr. Fauci, who spent 50 years in public health and has saved countless lives. It is shameful and wrong that Senator Paul is abusing his power by trying to weaponize the Justice Department against an honorable public servant.”
"Senator Paul's meritless" contempt resolution?
Dr. Fauci accepted a blanket presidential pardon and later took the Fifth more than 100 times, refusing to answer questions just a couple years after saying he had nothing to hide and would cooperate fully with any congressional hearings. As it turned out, Fauci appears to have wanted his government diary to remain hidden.
On top of that, even a Democrat on the committee basically admitted Fauci lied.

The contempt resolution doesn't seem very "meritless" to me.
Perhaps Fauci thinks that his sixth COVID booster has put him above the law, and the Democrats are determined to help him escape accountability. Americans deserve answers. Fauci and his Democrat protectors don't want to provide them for reasons that couldn't be more obvious.
