Eric Adams' sanctuary city promise is making the rounds again in light of NYC's new 'crisis'

Last year when he was running for mayor of New York City, Eric Adams promised to maintain NYC’s “sanctuary city” status if he were elected:

"We should protect our immigrants." Period.

Did these Dems really think they could support letting people into the U.S. illegally at the southern border and it would remain a problem isolated to border states?

Question: Did New York City not bother to think through to the logical conclusion where being a sanctuary city would lead? Because that sounds like a "them" problem.
