As we told you yesterday, Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis referred to what was an accident at the Wilton Manors, Florida Pride parade as a terrorist attack. Trantalis made the comment before the facts were known, and many media outlets quoted the mayor while failing to add the words “without evidence” (that they would have used for a claim from Trump):
Fort Lauderdale Mayor: Truck running into Pride parade "was a terrorist attack against the LGBTQ community" https://t.co/nAeR8ftsUx pic.twitter.com/oXu6dSVkf3

Trantalis later clarified his statement, but there was no apology whatsoever:
My statement following yesterday's events in Wilton Manors is below.
I want to thank our first responders for their efforts as police and medical personnel immediately attended to the scene. pic.twitter.com/lahwAQPO3C— Mayor Dean J. Trantalis (@DeanTrantalis) June 20, 2021
The New York Times has a report on the accident, and @JerylBier couldn’t help but notice a glaring omission:
Isn't the mayor's immediate false public chacterization of this as a terrorist attack worth mentioning as a matter of accountability?https://t.co/Uh5wsrTXCV

Trantalis will certainly appreciate the Times looking the other way for this report.
"She said many paradegoers had feared that the driver had intentionally targeted L.G.B.T.Q. people."
Like, you know, the *mayor*, who was unambiguous saying it was a terrorist attack, and yet does not warrant a mention in this story…https://t.co/Uh5wsrTXCV https://t.co/PzBsXEQIua

The Mayor’s a Democrat, so of course not. https://t.co/SR4PHDCSkx

Anything that advances the narrative is rewarded, even after it’s proven false. That’s the lesson that leftists have learned during 4 years of Trump. https://t.co/8hPdjvYeNk
