The New York Times has reported that the 2020 campaign of Kamala Harris is in trouble due to various factors:

One of those factors is that Harris could be a Democrat candidate who might have trouble winning over and/or understanding rural voters and others in what they call “flyover country.” The Times’ David Brooks put it this way:
It’s hard to run for national office from California or New York. The urban parts of those states are so unrepresentative you don’t understand what you’re about to face. https://t.co/S7AsKZ5Ly1

That tweet should have come with an asterisk, because exceptions do apply:

In other words, it can be done.
The current president is from New York and the last president was from Chicago, David. https://t.co/f3Iz6PB9Ns

Check me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't Trump from New York? I mean, he didn't carry New York, but…..

What the hell are you talking about? Trump is from Queens FFS.

And speaking of being “out of touch”…
Ironically, this also why the political media is so grossly out of touch with the voting public.
You’re all in NYC or DC. https://t.co/kGp2ySFqym

Just last month Brooks had a column featuring a hypothetical Trump voter named “Flyover Man” vs. a more progressive-thinking “Urban Man” that had a very “bubble-like” feel to it.
