Earlier today we told you about an epic thread focusing on what will come next for the Left in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and sending the issue of abortion back to the states. The thread is basically about the Left pushing and Republicans/conservatives pushing back when they’d had enough and reclaim their rights. The thread from @lone_rides ended this way:
There’s a saying about the danger of making people who want to be left alone get involved.
You’ve made us get involved.
So all of it, from here on out, is squarely on you.
Enjoy the whirlwind you have so deservedly reaped.

New York Magazine’s Jonathan Chait responded to the threat in a way that requires a beverage warning before proceeding.
Ready?
Ok, here goes:
This thread is another example of a quality I find on the right, but almost never on the left: a desire to use public policy to hurt people on the other side. https://t.co/r5KbvHo8bM
— Jonathan Chait (@jonathanchait) June 25, 2022
Um, did Chait even read the thread? He continued:
The left has plenty of ugly traits that are parallel to the right, but this expressed hope to make lives worse for people in the other party is not one of them.
— Jonathan Chait (@jonathanchait) June 25, 2022
The progressive view of victory envisions that conservatives will enjoy and benefit from progressive policy, despite their misgivings. This belief may be naive or wrong, but it's quite sincere!

You can't judge a movement by its most extreme manifestations, but the consistency with which iIsee conservatives express their vision of winning in terms of liberal pain reveals something.
— Jonathan Chait (@jonathanchait) June 25, 2022
Well that’s certainly one way to look at it.
Step out of your echo chamber Jonathan, you might be surprised.

They're so out of touch
— Scott Coleman (@bandphan) June 25, 2022
And they’re determined to remain that way.
Chait believes that only the policies that he disagrees with "hurt people" and the those he agrees with would be appreciated even by the people who don't want them
– Guns – bad
– Abortion – good
– Sexualization of children – goodHe refuses to see the validity of the other side https://t.co/wzH6bEcAYV

This thread isn’t about that at all. It’s about pushing back. It’s remarkable what you’re reading into it to buttress your own beliefs about yourself
— Jon 🔬 (@JonnyMicro) June 25, 2022
It apparently beats admitting to understanding the points that were being made in the thread.
As always, @jonathanchait misses the point, gets it completely wrong, then builds an army of straw men to heroically burn down. https://t.co/kX1vZyseGz

That you think this tells me you have not been paying attention, at all. https://t.co/gLEHEBkQQq

A “desire to use public policy to hurt the other side” is found mostly on the Right but hardly ever on the Left? That’s beyond laughable to anybody not living in an Acela corridor media bubble.
Jonathan, Little Sisters of the Poor is on line 2. What should I tell them? https://t.co/NeumupPPnj

Pandemic of the Unvaccinated.
White supremacy.
Gotcha. https://t.co/yRpGcY3wsK
— john jackson (@pvtjokerus) June 25, 2022
These guys are still trying to take people's jobs for declining the vaccine.
They are still kicking people out of the military.
There are still people in pre-trial detention for trespassing on Jan 6
They just raided a former DOJ official's home for investigating voter fraud. https://t.co/KuYg9Kqw44

Y'all hated it when SCOTUS finally put an end to Obama's harassment of Little Sisters of the Poor, too.
Get used to disappointment, Jon. https://t.co/phgDZj5FSo

Obama literally sued nuns. https://t.co/6dB1hpFgOm
— Stephen L. Miller (@redsteeze) June 25, 2022
By Chait’s logic, the group of nuns legally defending themselves might constitute another example of the Right trying to “hurt people on the other side.”
