NPR: Autopsy shows 'Cop City' protester's hands were raised when he was shot by police

Hey everyone, it’s “Hands up, don’t shoot!” all over again!

There hasn’t been much coverage in the mainstream media, but there have been riots in Atlanta over the fatal police shooting of Manuel Esteban Paez Terán, or Tortuguita, an environmental activist who was protesting the construction of Atlanta’s “Cop City” — a police training facility. Police say they shot and killed Terán after he fired at officers. It turns out five of six Antifa rioters arrested are from out of state, and it turns out one rioter arrested for firebombing the construction site is a lawyer for the SPLC, whose “hate map” is frequently cited by the media.

Now, Terán’s family and their attorneys are saying an autopsy showed that Terán had his hands in the air when he was shot. NPR reports:

A second autopsy of an environmental activist who was shot and killed by the Georgia State Patrol on Jan. 18 shows their hands were raised when they were killed, lawyers for their family say. The full autopsy report will be released at a press conference Monday.

The 26-year-old protester, Manuel Esteban Paez Terán, was killed in an Atlanta-area forest while police cleared an encampment of activists who oppose the construction of Atlanta’s “Cop City” — or Public Training Safety Facility. Terán went by Tortuguita.

“Both Manuel’s left and right hands show exit wounds in both palms. The autopsy further reveals that Manuel was most probably in a seated position, cross-legged when killed,” lawyers said in a press release.

Exit wounds in both palms?

The rest of that tweet reads, “The gunman seriously wounded a Georgia state trooper & forensic ballistics testing matched the bullet to his pistol. The family’s 2nd private autopsy has not been released but this is the misleading @NPR story by #Antifa supporter @kaityradde.”

Imagine if Terán were black … Al Sharpton would be all over this story.
