Chasten Buttigieg lets us know that Gov. Ron DeSantis can't make the LGBTQ community disappear with a pen

We’re sorry we missed this hot take from Monday on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signing into law the Parental Rights in Education bill. Opponents continue to refer to it as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and teachers are wringing their hands worrying that they won’t be able to tell their kindergarteners that they went paddleboarding with their partners over the weekend. There’s been a conscious misunderstanding of what the law does, and Chasten Buttigieg, husband of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, let DeSantis know that he can’t erase the LGBTQ community with his pen — all of the LGBTQ students and teachers are still lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning.

Making it illegal to acknowledge their existence? Come on, man! Whatever happened to the moral panic about disinformation being allowed on social media?

And married to the “first” openly gay cabinet member (if you don’t count Richard Grenell because he’s a Republican).

Yeah, but it sure sounds dramatic and makes the bill sound “hateful.” Buttigieg’s husband’s a public figure in the Biden administration but he can get away with saying this. And we’re supposed to impeach Justice Clarence Thomas over his wife’s texts? Secretary Pete, tell your husband to tone it down a notch.
