The FBI is putting even more effort into finding the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6 than it did in investigating that noose in Bubba Wallace’s garage. However, we still don’t have a definitive answer on what caused the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, and FBI Director Christopher Wray isn’t talking. And though it’s been floated on the internet, we still don’t officially know the name of the Capitol Police officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt inside the Capitol. Investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson wonders why:
Who killed Ashli Babbitt and why is the name being kept secret? I've never covered a case where a shooter's name has been kept secret for any reason in all my years as a reporter. It's considered public record; at least until now.

Reporter Andrew Feinberg offered up an explanation.
Capitol Police have very few public records obligations.

Local reporter shrugs when government officials refused to provide basic information because journalism is a profession we should respect and admire because reasons and so forth https://t.co/sAaoHxxjUo

That’s a lot to read into my answering her question, which was: “Who killed Ashli Babbitt and why is the name being kept secret?“
The USCP is a black box compared to most federal law enforcement. Totally exempt from FOIA, etc.

I’m so proud of our glorious media beating down the door demanding answers. https://t.co/ole0pAVdOj
— Kurt Schlichter (@KurtSchlichter) March 31, 2021
Whatever happened to making calls, knocking on doors, acquiring sources? I guarantee there's 100 people minimum that know the answer to that question. #journalismisdead
— Darkek Metumbo (@metumbo) March 31, 2021
that’s the kind of nose to the grindstone so whatever it takes to get a story that makes newspapers the success story they are today
— Johnathan J Foxboro (@foxboro_j) March 31, 2021
Have you reached out to those who were there and witnessed it? Or are you waiting for a slip of paper with a name on it to come sliding under the door?
— B. Steve White (@bstevewhite) March 31, 2021
Reporters don't know how to do anything other than FOIA requests anymore. Actual investigative journalism is dead.

“Can I get the name of the officer”
Nope
“Ok, have a nice evening”
— RW (@RW29314503) March 31, 2021
If it’s to protect the officer from retaliation, that’s kind of rich, considering the New York Times is digging up as much as it can find out about the jurors in the George Floyd murder case.
Meh. You don’t want to know. It’s cool.

Why isn't the family attorney on every @FoxNews program screaming to holy hell about it?
— "Sir" Justin Case III "Doctor of Letters" (@CAYANCOBRA4) March 31, 2021
Thanks for sticking with this story Sharyl. She may have been wrong but she didn't earn a public execution. Truth should be known. #AshliBabbitt

Thanks for pressing this issue. It's a very disturbing story the corporate media won't touch for whatever reason.
— Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) March 31, 2021
We will never know because it doesn’t fit their narrative.
— Dv8today (@dv8today) March 31, 2021
It would seem the rules are flexible depending on what narrative it fits

Question: Are there no public record police reports on file in D.C. for this incident?
— Day Williams (@Owlmanyeyes) March 31, 2021
Who should be asked? And who is supposed to provide that information? What excuse are they giving for not telling?
— Rachel E ?? (@REPsmile) March 31, 2021
I thought I was the only one. His name and the reason he fired should both be in the public record.
Never before has any police department not been required to present the facts around a police shooting.
— JcT (@txJCTtx) March 31, 2021
You will never ever find out who fired that shot…
— SayGoodnightUSA1???? (@Usa1Saywhat) March 31, 2021
Isn’t there anything that can be done? It was a public employee, surely we have a right to know. The family and the American people have a right to know.
— Warpug (@WARPUG) March 31, 2021
Probably one of Pelosi’s security people.
— Bob Currin (@CurrinJr) March 31, 2021
The shooter must not be a straight white male.
— Redacted (@RB4444) March 31, 2021
There are plenty of theories going around, but if the press were as serious about “misinformation” as it claims to be, they’d found out who shot Babbitt and why to clear up the whole thing.
