A lot of people are parading the idea that Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report proves that criticism of the FBI’s alleged political bias “was all lies” (James Comey, who’d know about lies) and “exonerated” Comey and the DOJ (CNBC media cheerleader John Harwood).
NBC News Justice Correspondent Pete Williams even made Mediaite for his take that the FBI “screwed up at every level.”
NBC's Pete Williams on Carter Page FISA Warrant: IG Report Found FBI 'Screwed Up at Every Level' https://t.co/ltHpWMmJAi
— Mediaite (@Mediaite) December 9, 2019
NBC News justice correspondent Pete Williams said on Monday that the Justice Department’s inspector general found the FBI “screwed up at every level” in using the salacious Steele dossier to obtain a FISA warrant against former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
…
… “What it says is the FBI basically repeatedly screwed up at every level, failing to pay enough attention to potential problems with Steele and failing to tell the Justice Department … The IG report says the FISA application was inaccurate, incomplete, or unsupported. It says, for example, that the FBI failed to look at some of the problems in Steele’s past work but that was never sufficiently addressed.”
What’s not so odd is that some of the biggest players in this drama, like Comey, seem perfectly happy with the inspector general’s conclusion that they were just making the sort of workplace mistakes we all make that led to 17 significant “inaccuracies and omissions” in the four FISA warrant applications.
Dana Loesch and others think “screwed up” is still a very nice way of summarizing the IG report.
Corrupt more accurate than “screwed up" https://t.co/jalyzMnRda

Good point: “Would a regular beat cop get a pass …” @YatesDCIA asks re: the FBI “screwed up” #DanaRadio

Law Enforcement doesn't get the chance to "screw up" There are repurcussions especially when it comes to Warrant applications.

Purposely with malice.

Every mistake they make goes one way. What an incredible coincidence.
— fergus (@fergus55826817) December 9, 2019
That’s NBC’s corrupt reporting of the corruption.
— OldManTakeALookAtMyLife (@old_take) December 9, 2019
NBC admitted that? Wow. It must be bad.
— Lonestar Tex (@RealLonestarTX) December 9, 2019
C'mon they have to give it a spin. Otherwise they would be real journalists
— Civic Eagles (@civiceagles) December 9, 2019
Agree with you. This is the FBI. Maybe screw up once, but every time? Then not realize mistakes? Then ignore mistakes?
— TommyHour?? (@thomashourigan1) December 9, 2019
And just like with the media, notice how the mistakes and screw-ups always seem to go in one direction.
intentionally cut corners is the new "screwed up"?

"Screwed up"? Like, whoops, we don't know what we're doing?
Not even close to likely.— Evocatus (@Evocatus425) December 9, 2019
I think you meant to say abused not screwed up.
— Ambrose Goode (@GoodeAmbrose) December 9, 2019
Screw up? Try obvious corruption.
— KJR Molon (@KjrMolon) December 9, 2019
It was not an accident. This was deliberate.
— Justice in 2019 (@JamieWilkison) December 9, 2019
It's just like if you had "screwed up" on your taxes, IRS would send you a letter saying, "you silly girl, you screwed up at every level, now let's see that this does not happen again… and this time we mean it."#TwoTieredJustice

Good 'ole Democrat "incompetence defense"
— Harold Christian (@Cchris12) December 9, 2019
Notice how idiocy is the last defense for corruption.
— Timothy Kerby ?? (@TimothyKerby) December 9, 2019
No political bias, just complete incompetence. Thanks Horowitz I feel so much better.
— HaveSuitcaseWillTravel (@HSWT2020) December 9, 2019
So there you have probably the most critical take we’ll hear from the mainstream media today — an NBC News correspondent saying the FBI and DOJ “screwed up.”
