House Democrat says she doesn't see the value of kicking President Trump out of office

As Twitchy reported earlier, Rep. Adam Schiff appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday and tried to make the case that public support for impeachment has grown dramatically in the past two months, when in fact polls have shown that public support for impeachment has dropped, especially among independents, following last week’s testimony by eight “witnesses.”

The public was not moved, and that must leave Speaker Nancy Pelosi wondering how to get out of this mess, which she clearly was dragging her feet on for as long as possible.

Last week, we heard from Republican Rep. Will Hurd, who said he saw no evidence of bribery or corruption — the charges the Democrats pivoted to when “quid pro quo” wasn’t testing well with the public.

We also learned last week that Rep. Mark Sanford just wasn’t seeing sufficient evidence either:

Now we’re learning that a Democrat, Rep. Brenda Lawrence of Michigan, is saying she doesn’t see the value of kicking President Trump out of office.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Democratic Rep. Brenda Lawrence of Michigan now favors censuring President Trump after backing impeachment proceedings over allegations that he withheld military aid from Ukraine for his personal benefit.

Lawrence appeared on the Michigan radio show No BS News Hour with host Charlie LeDuff on Sunday to discuss the impeachment process in the House. Lawrence told LeDuff, to his surprise, that she does not support removing the president from office and that she would ask her caucus to censure him instead.

“We are so close to an election. I will tell you, sitting here knowing how divided this country is, I don’t see the value of taking him out of office,” Lawrence said. “I do see the value of putting down a marker saying his behavior is not acceptable.”

Could Democrats settle on censure? Because there’s no way the Senate is going to vote to remove Trump from office.
